Publisher's summary

Between heaven and hell, man and demon, she's about to face the one thing she may not be able to survive.

Welcome to the world of Kara Gillian, a cop with a gift. Not only does she have the power of "othersight" to see what most people can’t even imagine, but she’s become the exclusive summoner of a demon lord. Or maybe it’s the other way around. The fact is, with two troublesome cases on her docket and a handsome FBI agent under her skin, Kara needs the help of sexy, insatiable Lord Rhyzkahl more than he needs her. Because these two victims, linked by suspicious coincidence, haven’t just been murdered. Something has eaten their souls.

It’s a case with roots in the arcane, but whose evil has flowered among the rich, powerful, and corrupt in Beaulac, Louisiana. And as the killings continue, Kara soon realizes how much there is still to learn about demons, men, and things that kill in the night - and how little time she has to learn it.

Full of heartbreak, mystery and action.

If you could sum up Blood of the Demon in three words, what would they be?

When I find a series that I really love, it’s hard not to chew through it. I have to stop myself from devouring the entire thing in just a week or two, so naturally after I finished Mark of the Demon, I went directly to the second book in the series Blood of the Demon.

In this story Kara finds a fellow officer dead from an apparent suicide; but not all is as it appears, his essence is missing. That one mystery starts a slew of other murders and mysteries, all stemming around the mysterious creature that is somehow draining essence from their victims. Once again Kara teams up with her FBI agent Ryan, who she is so completely attracted to. I was screaming at the story, KISS him already! UGGG. I am really hopping those two get it together!

Kara’s life is never that simple, her Aunt is still in a coma, and her essence is in the void. Kara seeks help once again from Lord Rhyzkahl; but the demon lord has his own agenda, and wants Kara for his own!

Blood of the Demon was full of heartbreak, mystery, and action. Kara is one of those characters that get under your skin, and you can do nothing but love her. I want her to succeed in everything she does, and I want her to find her happiness, and yes, I want that happiness to be with Ryan! LOL....Sara

A great series

A great series and i just tried for Book 3 which is supposed to whispersync to.

But whilst Book 1,2 and 4 have the matching kindle and Audible titles available book 3 does not(at least in Australia) go figure. I have reported this issue to audible many times in the past and get a generic or mainly no reply and writing this here will get this wiped

I recommend this series to those who like Fantasy/mystery/police, in the case of the mystery/police the probably like this better if the don't mind tales that take them out of there comfort zone

The narrator Author do a wonderful job of immersing you into the characters and the story

Way easier to figure out than the first one

Still a great book with lot of potential, for future entries in the series. I just wish the mystery component was more mysterious.

Love this

I want to thank Audible for getting book two in this series before I went on to book three. Previously I had purchased book one and loved it but Audible didn't have book 2 yet. They did have book 3 and I was unhappy 2 wasn't avaliable. Anyway I saw it was about to come out a few days after I listened to the first one, so a BIG thank you.

This is very interesting. I always like a story with a new idea that I haven't listened to before and this one covers it. Demon summons and police work combined is just a good but unusual combination for me. There is not much sexual content in this book, but like I've said before, a interesting book doesn't need it. I enjoy all the different types of demons and their characteristics. Kara is an interesting character and I enjoy her realtionships with her co-workers, family and the demonkind. It makes for a thirst for the next book. Due to the circumstances in this book I do think things are only going to get better.

It's a Yes from me on credit worthiness.

My Demon can beat up your demon

What did you love best about Blood of the Demon?

The plot was really intricate, and the characters always keep you guessing. Just when I thought I knew what was happening I was thrown a curve ball. I love that about these stories.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really like Kara. She is a bit awkward but, incredibly strong and smart.

What does Liv Anderson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her way of bringing each character to the surface.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Never cross a summoner

Any additional comments?

Great second book! Looking forward to the next one :) Worth a credit for sure.

many plot twists and turns, engaging characters

I stumbled onto this series and I'm very glad I did because the characters are interesting and the plot captures the imagination. Kara Gillian is a police detective in a small southern Louisiana parish and has the unique talent of being able to summon creatures from another plane of existence. Other main characters include an FBI agent familiar with the paranormal and arcane and a deliciously gorgeous demon lord. Kara is working to solve murder cases that may involve demonic creatures while trying to find a way to revive her aunt who is in a coma. An exciting read that was finished all too soon. Luckily for me there are still more to read in the series.

A good whodunnit with a paranormal edge

I enjoy a good whodunnit murder mystery, and that's precisely what BLOOD OF THE DEMON was, but with a paranormal edge. I'm still not entirely sure what's up with Ryan (although I do have a few guesses), and the Rhyzkahl thing was inevitable, so even though Kara's path is a tad predictable there's still a sizable chunk of unknowns to keep listeners engaged. Liv Anderson is definitely a narrator that I would recommend, especially when paired with Diana Rowland's writing style.

Overall a pretty good book

It's worth a read. who knows maybe the series will develop just that last little bit more to warrant 5 stars from my POV. I'll get the next and the next because they are intriguing enough.

I feel like there is room for the author to do so much more with this universe and these books. There's usually a decent hook, a lull, a sex scene, a lull, a dramatic ending, then epilogue.

There are some pretty good scenes, but I want just a little more from the characters, and the writing. I feel like it's right there. There is some good foreshadowing, some good comedic relief, and even decent twists. It's as if all the right ingredients for an epic book are there, but it's not quite found the perfect mix. I keep reading into certain things in certain are foreshadowing, expecting it to use this or that bit in a really clever way. Yet it rarely ever gets there. This book and the one before it usually wrap up really quickly after a big quick climax with a few dead bodies.

My biggest complaint about the main character is that she has the "nothing extraordinary about me, I'm average this and average that, and maybe a little out of shape" as a way for the reader to relate to her which I thoroughly dislike. the constant complaints about extra weight and a sugar craving as if it's all a very negative thing that means she's not worth love or attention makes me roll my eyes. She's strong in so many other ways but apparently values herself very little.

She's Always negative about her self image, and doesn't understand how anyone could be attracted to her. Then when she Almost finds something to like about her body when she accidentally loses weight and drops 3 sizes. Except only Now does she notice how frumpy her clothes look on her, and she has even less curves than before. You'd think after coming back from death and the demon realm the book before with what sounds like zero scars and skin imperfections would make her appreciate her appearance and he skin just a little, but no. Just negative.

"I need to work out more, be more fit, have boobs and a butt, better looking hair, etc. and then I'd be worthy of male attention" It's such an overdone trope that really makes me dislike the character.

She and the other characters get little in the way of character development. We get tiny and I mean Tiny, bits of info about them. It really is mostly about the crimes, not the characters. Oh well, I'm hopeful it will develop just a little bit more.

It's worth a read, long story short. Who knows maybe the series will develop just that last little bit more to warrant 5 stars from my POV. I'll get the next and the next because they are intriguing.

Series this good are rare.

I can't believe I never reviewed this series, other than book 1, which I loved. Here it is, too many years later, and I'm re-reading what I thought would be only the first of many great paranormal reads. Boy was I wrong.

Good series can be really hard to find, and I used to count on reviewers to find them, something that Audible has made more difficult by not letting us follow other members like we used to. (I wonder if they will ever realize how much dropping that feature has affected book sales, as I sit here looking up at the 8 credits in my account, completely clueless about any great new series because the people I used to get tips from - the ones I followed - no longer exist as a resource.)

Instead -- I generally re-listened to my favs, Night Huntress, Mercy Thompson, and a few others, over and over again, rather than take a chance on new writers that I don't know anything about. I've stopped reviewing as well, since it all feels so pointless now that there's no Audible community to connect with. I miss that.

Fortunately, I recently recalled how much I loved this series, and I'm having a blast with it. Thank the demonic lord that I remembered!

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! With good long books in the series, too!
