About this listen

A Deets Shanahan Mystery

When 70-something Indianapolis PI Dietrich Deets Shanahan receives a call from Jack Wenders, his former commanding officer in Korea, inviting him to Mexico to discuss a case, Shanahan accepts.

But Wenders' shadowy tactics put Shanahan on his guard and rightly so: Wenders has become involved with a private security force that operates lawlessly across borders, without boundaries or limitations. Wenders has blown the whistle and now wants out using Shanahan's own identity to escape....

awful narration

who chooses the narrator? doesn't anyone listen? this man's voice is annoying first off. add to this, his prounounciation of words. awful. I liked the story, so I continued to listen. but I will avoid books that list him as narrator in the future.

Just OK

Story is rather slow and uninventive. Narrator is over dramatic and annoying. Doesn’t pronounce Puerto Vallarta correctly and some other words. This drives me crazy.

narration very sad

sadly Don seems to select the WORST narrators!! I love his stories, and the dry homour he slides.in every so often .. cleverly and succinctly describing his characters comically. impossible to not go to sleep whilst javing to rewind, replay to establish who said what. all the NORMAL male characters just in discernable.. and ALWAYS 1 charater with the WORST voice in his Jack detective series and now this stand alone novel, such a spoiler!

Muddled narration

I don't usually review books because there is always lots of room for subjective analysis, but in this case I felt I had to say something. I listen to audio books every day while working and every once in a while get lost and have to go back, but I found this narration hard to follow in the extreme. The change between the characters is often not well delineated and I kept having to figure out where we were and who was talking. In addition, there are multiple mispronunciations, and I wondered if there had been any direction or editing of the performance. Listened to about half and couldn't take it any longer.

Hum🤔

Not sure whether I really like this author and this series, but I'll try the next book in the series. I'm not crazy about the narrator though. At first I thought it was a joke, the way he pronounced "Puerto Vallarta", but then he pronounced it the same way several times more. 😳 OMG
I also had to increase the narration speed a bit.

Yuck

Terrible stunted dialogue, characters not believable, a wannabe author who would be better left unpublished - straight garbage
