Publisher's summary

This year Valentine’s Day isn’t for romance. It’s for murder.

Mega rich restaurant owner Jack Barnes and his second wife Zee are very much in love. However, their plans for Valentine’s Day are about to be torn apart by the most violent murder.

Who is the strange figure plotting this sick crime? Who hates Jack that much? There are plenty of suspects living in Jack’s fancy block of flats. Is it them, or could it be the work of an outsider with a twisted mind? One thing’s for sure, the police have got their work cut out solving this bloody mess.

Passed

Would you try another book from James Patterson and K.A John and/or Steven Pacey?

I would likely do another... I've read/heard a lot from James Patterson.

Would you recommend Bloody Valentine to your friends? Why or why not?

Bloody Valentine was ok for a shorter listen... not remarkable ... but kept me interested to the end.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was fine

Was Bloody Valentine worth the listening time?

Yes.

Gripping

Patterson tends to be a bit hit-and-miss, but this was a thriller of note. Tense, disturbing. My only complaint would be that it was too short. The plot had so much more potential.

what a disappointment

I have been a James Patterson fan for years, not all his books have been favorites, but this was bad, strong start, blood and gore, then no motive, and no detective work, more of an outline for a story.
Please James finish before you publish.

Where was the rest of it??

I really enjoyed this book when it started (what there was of it). But when it ended after little more than 2 hours in I was really disappointed. The story was just getting going when it suddenly ended with a 10 second wrap up, a rather 2 dimensional explanation and a really obvious culprit.

Had this been the first quarter of a full length book I would have said it was going quite well. When it abruptly ended it felt as though the writer just got bored or distracted by something else and decided to wrap it up as quickly as possible.

I usually like Pattersons books, they are not deep, but rather engrossing and exciting pulp, enjoyed and quickly forgotten. Having said that, I have always bought his books confident of an enjoyable read that i don't regret buying. This one was more like a few pages of a trashy magazine - initially interesting, over before you knew it, without really having much too say about anything.

I really expected better based on previous purchases. I will take a closer look before buying his books from now on.

Not worth my time

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I don't think this one could be saved. Perhaps a re-write.

What could James Patterson and K.A John have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This was one of the worst James Patterson books I have ever read. I was very disappointed. I have read most of the Alex Cross series and this book does not even compare to the quality of Patterson's other works.

Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Pacey’s performances?

I would probably try another of Steven Pacey's performances, I think that it was the book and storyline that made this a bad experience.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bloody Valentine?

I actually would add more scenes and action to this one. It was quite dull to read.

Any additional comments?

I would not purchase this book knowing what I know now.
