About this listen

Re-release of 2009 novella - Fire cost Jared Kenny his home and all his memories of the man he'd loved for over half his life. But it also brought him firefighter Adam Collins and the purest blue eyes Jared had ever seen.

Despite the best efforts of his department, Adam had to watch with Jared while Jared's house burned to the ground. Something about the man touched Adam and made him want to follow up and protect him. Later, when the two of them gave in to their passion, it burnt and bared them both.

So Jared ran...from Adam, from his past, and from everything their future together could hold. He tried to start a new life, taking only his newfound passion for glass and his obsession for a finding a particular shade of blue, the blue of the heart of a flame. It took a near-tragedy to teach him that the blue he sought, he'd had all along...in his firefighter's eyes.

Short, to the point, a tad hurried here & there, but I was drawn in to the MC's lives. I understood some of the reviews that felt it was too abbreviated, but I do believe in quality over quantity. As far as the criticism toward the narration, to each their own. With over 225 titles in my library, I've developed my favourites, and less than, but there's always something for everyone.

Overall I enjoyed hearing this sweet, passionate love story. The HEA was well-deserved, another reminder that love conquers all. Sample the preview, and make up your own mind!

Enjoyed This Bite-sized Spicy Bit!!!

This story was breathtaking
It starts out heartbreaking with Adam pulling Jared from a fire he doesn’t want to leave. He’s lost his husband of many years now his home. Falling into a deep depression Adam takes him to his family cabin where they forge a deeper friendship but Jared isn’t ready for more. As time passes A forest fire nearly takes Adams life and they find each other again.
This sorry was so well written and the narration just made me sigh and cry.
Beautiful job!

Absolutely breathtaking

So I love many of Z. A. Maxfield’s books, but this one was just okay. Short and not a lot of character development. Also, the narrator really ruined it. He wasn’t overtly HORRIBLE, but I wasn’t a fan of the voices he gave the characters. He also sounded very angry when narrating the steamy sex scenes, and I couldn’t help but laugh whenever one was being read because it was just so ridiculous.

Not the best book by this author

Excellent romantic work.

Losing everything you have including the mementos of your life is devastating and can leave you lost with no direction. Adam became Jared's compass after he'd pulled him from the conflagration that was his home. With gentleness and caring Adam coaxed Jared back to living and inspired a new beginning for his life.

I think this was a pretty good book. There were sometimes when the narrator got a little out of hand and made the scenes overly intense, it was weird and kinda kicked me out of the story. The characters are pretty quirky but for the most part I liked their relationship.

Great book but the narrator could have mellowed out a bit.

I really liked the story line

Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably (you can't really do much with 3 hours)
Were there any parts I found annoying: not really .. but Jared's character sounded like an older Anthony Hopkins which was a bit weird for me - i got used to it though.
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: not really
Would I listen to it again: there are others i'd listen too before it - but i wouldn't not listen too it again.
Story comments: It was entertaining enough. I'm not really sure why Adam felt such an instant connection to Jared though.
Narration comments: Good clear narration, each character was distinct and represented the character well.

entertaining enough for 3 hours
