About this listen

When Private Investigator Jim Bean is called to conduct a simple insurance investigation at a Nevada trailer park, he finds himself wrapped up in a case that’s more complicated than anything he could have imagined.

There’s a torched trailer. A missing woman named Emilee who harbors a dark past. And the Ward family, with their own sinister secrets to hide. Jim quickly realizes that if he wants to find Emilee, he’s going to have to get closer to the Ward family - and untangle their twisted web of lies.

But the closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous things become. And when Jim gets caught up in the gruesome events, he realizes that he’s not just fighting to save Emilee - he’s fighting to save himself.

Good story and performance

First, thank you to the author for not making the female lead a careless idiot; I really struggled with the characterization of Erika in the first book). This story has twists and turns that keep the listener guessing. I appreciate the situations Bean finds himself in when he uses the ill-conceived logic, "if I was law enforcement I'd need a search warrant for this" then immediately finds himself in a bad situation. Whenever I hear this phtase I expect him to be captured, clobbered, or otherwise incapacitated. The performer is excellent at capturing each character's personality.

Best book so far!

Jim Bean was much more likable in this book. Great twists and turns that made me want to keep reading. Hoping the next book up is this good - I was sorry to come to the end even though I was anxious to see what happened. Loved it!

Love this series

I found this series with the first 2 being free. I now am paying for the books cause I am hooked. I love the characters, the narrator and the stories. Not sure how many of these there are and will be sad when I’m done.

Excellent 3rd in the series for Jim Bean

This 3rd book in the Jim Bean (as in pinto bean) P.I. series was excellent. Strong characters and interesting developments in the story keeps the interest alive. The writing quality felt even a slight improvement over the first 2 books. Very effective narration here as well.

very good story and so far a good series. the narrator's voice is very easy to listen to.

I love the fact that in these books there are no repetitive conjunctions or adverbs.
