About this listen

“The energy and artistry Ericksen puts into her presentation make for an exciting listen.”—AudioFile (Earphones Award Winner)

The #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb spins an epic tale of loyalty, treachery, murder, and the long shadow of war…

His passport read Giovanni Rossi. But decades ago, during the Urban Wars, he was part of a small, secret organization called The Twelve. Responding to an urgent summons from an old compatriot, he landed in New York and eased into the waiting car. And died within minutes…

Lieutenant Eve Dallas finds the Rossi case frustrating. She’s got an elderly victim who’d just arrived from Rome; a widow who knows nothing about why he’d left; an as-yet unidentifiable weapon; and zero results on facial recognition. But when she finds a connection to the Urban Wars of the 2020s, she thinks Summerset—fiercely loyal, if somewhat grouchy, major-domo and the man who’d rescued her husband from the Dublin streets—may know something from his stint as a medic in Europe back then.

When Summerset learns of the crime, his shock and grief are clear—because, as he eventually reveals, he himself was one of The Twelve. It’s not a part of his past he likes to revisit. But now he must—not only to assist Eve’s investigation, but because a cryptic message from the killer has boasted that others of The Twelve have also died. Summerset is one of those who remain—and the murderous mission is yet to be fully accomplished…

An Excellent Read

I dont know how JD Robb keeps coming up with such great writing. This is like the 60th book with these characters and its even better than the last one. Cleaver plot. Great new characters. Evolving yet engaging growth in the reoccurring characters. The star of the book is the narator. Erickson does a fantastic job with all the different accents and tones of the people so one can easily get caught up in each person's personality. Overall this is one of best Eve Dallas adventures yet.

Best book in series!

Just when I thought the Eve Dallas books couldn't get any better, Bonded in Death is released. Hope the next one is as good as this one it has set the bar high. Loved learning more about Summerset.

Old bonds are recognized

When the body of Giovanni Rossi is found dead in New York, Dallas finds his connection to Sommerset and his fellow underground team members who worked to expose evil during the Urban Wars. Turns out Sommerset was more than a medic. We get to find out how amazing his wife was and how she died. And how the team of The Twelve was betrayed.
Ericksen did her usual great job of voicing multiple characters and emotions.

The plot, the characters and the whole presentation.

It was probably the best In Death series. Lots of movement without so much “sniping”. I highly recommend Bonded In Death.

Very enjoyable

The storyline very different from the traditional in death novel. Appreciated the background on Somerset. Nothing predictable here enjoyed it a great deal.

Somerset finally getting recognition

Liked that some history of the urban war was explained, and that Somerset’s patriotism was acknowledged.

Satisfying And Intriguing

A wonderful reveal of Sommerset's past in an intriguing criminal chase that provides seven former spies for resource and assistance. This Eve Dallas book provides the satisfaction of appropriate justice while celebrating girl power in a rewarding way.
