About this listen

Internationally celebrated for his writing and his music, Leonard Cohen is revered as one of the great writers, performers, and most consistently daring artists of our time. Now available on audio for the first time, the poems in Book of Mercy brim with praise, despair, anger, doubt, and trust.

Speaking from the heart of the modern world, yet in tones that resonate with an older devotional tradition, these verses give voice to our deepest, most powerful intuitions.

As usual, Leonard Cohen masters with poetic skill. both a voice of epic stories and powerful moments. Cohen shows what a complex subject in the proper hands can do.
hats off to you maestro.

As expected, Cohen is magnificent

Oh, I wish it would have been recorded with the author reading it. His reading of Book of Longing weaves it’s way into your soul. The content is pure Cohen. The words create pictures, feelings, emotions.

Narrator doesn’t do it justice

A sincere outpouring of love and prayer in the Ancient Hebrew Tradition. “Study on a World without Me” says his Yahweh. I have and found it to be a satisfying, though challenging place. I’m happy to face the highs and lows of Life in this World without Him.

Good modernization of Biblical Prayers.

I love Leonard Cohen’s albums, “Songs of Love and Hate” and “New Skin for the Old Ceremony,” but this lost me. While I’m sure this is deep in content, and sound in structure, I’ll be damned if I didn’t completely zone out in the throes of its second-person religiosity and start thinking about tomorrow’s laundry.

Love Leonard but I zoned out

Poetry has the potential to enlighten, praise, celebrate, and so much more. Too often, though, it is impenetrable and obscure. Sadly, that is the case with this collection. Whatever meaning Cohen was trying to impart escaped me.

Disappointing
