About this listen

This book has been in the top 400 of the Amazon store since published.

When Maisie Swenson takes over as manager at Florida's elite Oceanside hotel, she's thrilled to move on site with her Momma and their basset hound, Bingo. She expected by the job description to cater to the crazy whims of some of the richest people in America. What was never on her job resume was dealing with the murder of business mogul Norman Olsen. He's a huge figure in the video gaming business, but now it looks like he had some dangerous enemies - including his own wife and son. Maisie thought the worst of her worries was getting fired. But, as she uncovers clues, the murderer focuses on Maisie. Suddenly, it's personal.

The story was fast-paced, decent sleuthing and characters. The romance could have been more developed. The narrator couldn’t land the Southern belle mama at all. Pity, that could have been an adorable character- she should channel Dolly Parton or one of the Steel Magnolias.

This was my first on a couple of levels. My first CeeCee James book and my first audio book. I've had this author in my TBR pile for some time and I'm so glad I was finally able to listen to "Booked for Murder: An Oceanside Mystery".

In this first book of the series, Maisie Swenson is starting her new job as Manager of the Oceanside Hotel. There is a convention booked so she's jumping right in and little does the part-time mystery writer know that she'll be trying to solve a murder. Love the quirky cast of characters, especially Maisie's mom and their basset hound Bingo. There are funny moments and it'll keep you guessing until the very end.

I don't have anything to compare it to but I think the narrator did a great job and I have to say I'm hooked on audio books!

Thanks so much CeeCee James for this experience. I look forward to the next adventure at the Oceanside Hotel. (less)

A Great Story!

While the author conceived a good basic plot, the addition of some suspense would have strengthened it. The characters are shallow and predictable, their voices all presented in a gritty, nasal, regional quality which made listening to them a chore. To say the presentation was colorless would be kind. The author should try again. The narrator should not.

One more rewrite, please.

the mother's voice I find to be extremely irritating. the characters are weak. I will try the next book in this series to see if it gets better.

The narrator spoiled this book for me...most of it was read in a monotone voice!

Good story boring narrator

CeeCee James has written a good cozy mystery. The main character is likable. Katie Habib gave a decent job of bringing the characters to life.

Good cozy mystery

The narrator was not bad when doing the lead character lines but when doing the mother's lines she was awful. She sounded like a child talking while holding their nose.

Not a terrible story but narrator was dreadful

As an avid reader of mystery stories, I found this book incredibly boring and insipid. I finished it, but mostly because I spent good money on it.
