About this listen

Phoenix is old. Too damn old to still be alone. But when you’re the leader of the Blackjacks, a group of mixed-blood vampire fighters, a happily ever after comes a very distant second to survival. The True Order is determined to wipe them out and she’s going to make sure that doesn’t happen. Seven Blackjacks against an unknown number of pure-bloods–the odds aren’t in their favour.

Then he was taken and it was six…

Court was the one fighter she let in, the one she broke her own rules with, the one she shared her bed with, the one she gave her heart to. When he vanished without a trace, he took a piece of her with him. Three years later he’s back from the dead, but it’s not the reunion she dreamt of. Court doesn’t recognise her, doesn’t recognise any of the vampires he lived with, fought with, bled with. The hole in his memory has consumed their life together as if it never happened.

Nix must push her personal feelings aside as the enemy seems hot on Court’s heels, desperate to get to him before his memory resurfaces. The Blackjacks need her head in the game instead of mourning a relationship no one remembers… except her. This is bigger than her feelings for Court. He wasn’t the only one taken. Others have disappeared and most haven’t returned. Someone is trying to purify the race and Court is the key that could bring about the end–not just of the Blackjacks, but of all mixed-blood vampires.

Compelling Relationships Last Forever

‘Breaking Phoenix,’ by K.A. Finn, delivers an exhilarating start to the Blackjack series. The Blackjacks are mixed-blood vampire fighters determined to survive. The pure-blooded, True Order vampires face an awful future if they don’t find a way out of their destiny to oblivion. Thea convinced her vampire brother, Court, must remain off the grid to survive and believes he is her only family. They live in a nearly condemned property, and she helps to supplement their income with a minor job.

K.A. Finn develops a believable world that leverages contemporary technology with century-plus-aged beings who have seamlessly thrived. Vivid descriptions of capabilities depict enormous physical strength, deep passions for relationships, sounds of moving wings, and sensational fight scenes to bring fans alongside the heroes and villains.

The character’s strengths and weaknesses become emphasized through an individual’s unique capabilities, such as Phoenix’s stay-tough leadership abilities of the Blackjacks, which help her overcome her desire for a relationship. Court, missing for several years from the Blackjacks, has unexplained missing memories that keep him confused. The seven Blackjacks each have secrets, passions, abilities, and an unshakable commitment to one another, especially their non-vampire family members. Villains of the True Order are determined to survive regardless of the cost to others.

Julian Franklin’s fabulous voice acting brings this world and every character to life. The flawless delivery is accentuated by dramatic pauses, well-timed intonations, and pitch changes that emphasize the horror of the action scenes and the deep passion of the romantic interludes. Listeners are drawn into this world from the first words, hoping to hear one more chapter.

Fans of paranormal fantasy with vampire romance will enjoy meeting each of the Blackjacks and discovering their favorite character to follow. Will the gaps in Court’s memory create more questions? Can Phoenix find the best path for the Blackjacks and herself? Will Thea embrace secrets kept from her? Experience non-stop action and adventure in Book 1 of the Blackjacks series, ‘Breaking Phoenix,’ and stay tuned for the follow-on stories fans won’t want to miss

Great Start to The Series

Breaking Phoenix is the first book in the Blackjacks Series and introduces us to seven mixed-blood vampires and The True Order an ancient group of pure-bloods intent on purifying their race.

Phoenix is the leader of the Blackjacks, a group of mixed-blood vampire fighters and is still without her mate but survival takes priority of everything at the moment. The True Order is determined to eradicate all mix-bloods but Phoenix will do anything to make sure they survive but with an untold number against a mere seven will that be possible.

Phoenix let down her walls with Court, breaking her own rules she shared her bed with him and gave him her heart. But then he vanished without a trace, taking a piece of her heart with him. Then three years later they meet again only Court has no memory of her or any of the vampires he once thought of as friends.

With the enemy hot on Court’s heels determined to get to him before his memory returns Phoenix must put her personal feelings aside, The Blackjacks must come first and not the relationship he has no memory of.

But Court wasn’t the only one to be taken, others have disappeared too is someone is trying to bring about the end of mixed-bloods?

My review is written after both reading and listening to this interesting, smooth-flowing story narrated by Julian Franklin who does a great job of bringing the characters to life.

I look forward to listening to the next book.
