About this listen

An ancient highlander who’s never been allowed to love. A modern woman who keeps men at arm’s length. Can their passion overcome their pasts?

Althea Jarden’s botanical fieldwork keeps her happily busy, but it has kept her from relationships as well - by design. Because deep passions can overwhelm her, she concluded long ago that a conventional life was not for her. She’s learned to depend on herself. But all the self-reliance in the world can’t prepare her for being taken to ancient Scotland and what she finds there.

Chieftain Brennus Skaraven would like nothing better than to remain dead, his legendary clan buried and forgotten. Anything would be preferable to suffering the manipulations of the druids. But when a strange lass comes crashing into his life, he discovers more than a reason to live. He finds the one thing that had always been denied to him and his kind - love.

Brennus is the first book in the Immortal Highlander Clan Skaraven series. If you love hard-bodied heroes, a mythic world, and a brave heroine, then you’ll love this sizzling series. Join the romantic realm of the Immortal Highlanders bygetting this today. Mature readers comfortable with dark themes only please.

Can a Highland Warrior find love and save his clan

Hazel Hunter continues her Immortal Highlander Series with the Skaraven clan. She brings a new enemy along with its soldiers to battle these trained from birth warriors who have never been around actual women. The story takes place in 14th century Scotland. The clan must deal with the first woman in their midst along with the enemy. They must work through their prior way of living as start their new lives.

Althea Jarden is a doctor of botany working to find a cure for the infection that killed her beloved uncle who raised her and told that she has a heart of ice. While searching for specific ferns for research she is kidnapped by 2 evil druids and their army of giants along with 4 others and used to go back to 14th century Scotland. As she is being taken she sees a shadow of a man trying to help her. With the help of her fellow kidnap victims she escapes and is about to be captured when some one comes to her aid and when he's overpowered she goes to help him by using the power she didn't realize she had. Brennus takes her back to the keep and the shaman works to heal her. Brennus realizes she's the woman he saw and hasn't been able to forget. He & his clan won't help her at first to save the other women until she makes them realize that they're supposed to protect all people. As Brennus and Althea get closer she learns more about the clan and how they were raised and their ways and works to help them adjust to having a woman around and living their new lives after being resurrected. They plan a mission to rescue the other 4 women from the evil druids and their army. Althea is recaptured and uses her druid power to help Brennus and the clan only to die in the process. Brennus and Althea have fallen in love and he doesn't know what he'll do with out her. He gave her his ring and when it starts to glow he and the clan are thrown back and the spell that brought the Skaraven clan back to life is what bought her back. Meanwhile the druid who wanted their help betrayed them so that they would keep fighting the enemy.

Honestly I was a little lost because I thought that there would be some small connection to the other books in the Immortal series but there was no mention of them. Once I got into the book I was hooked and I look forward to reading the next installment Caderyn. I wonder which of the druidesses will be rescued next. Will the War Master's heart soften more when he finds his own woman to love. I look forward to finding out.

Whoah—you’ll want your own highlander after listening to this

I did read and enjoy this when it came out as an ebook so I thought I’d give the audio a try. The narrator brings the story to life and you’ll want a Brennus of your own. I was surprised that knowing the story I didn’t want to rush through it, but hearing it was almost like reading it from the beginning with new eyes. I was also shocked by how many details I missed (or at least didn’t take note of) when I read it. Well worth a listen if this is a new to you story and maybe even more so if you’ve read the book. Definitely five stars.

Love it!

I love how the narrator of this series brings these characters to life. Brennus is probably one of my favorite books in this series and the narrator brought him to life perfectly. You feel everything the characters feel and experience what they experience and I love being able to do that. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series!

GREAT READ!

I absolutely loved it! This book caught my attention from the very beginning and held it throughout the entire book. This book has it all (action, adventure, drama, suspense, romance, magic, time travel and mystical universe. The narration was superb. The author did an amazing job with the character builds and plot. I read the Immortal Highlander's series by this author and enjoyed that as well. I look forward to reading more books in this series (can't wait)! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Love no matter what time.

Hazel Hunter has been an author whose books I have loved reading, or listening to in this case. To date I haven't been disappointed by her books, and this one lives up to that expectation. You wind up with a pair of character who are both out of their normal times.

Althea was a modern day botanist, who was attacked in Scotland as she was looking for plants she wanted to research and was dragged back in time for reasons unknown to her, She wakes as a prisoner, but with the unknowing help of her fellow captives as well as a distraction by Brennus and his clan manages to escape.

Brennus is the chieftain of Clan Skaraven, and finds himself resurrected by a clan of druid who his clan had died to protect. They awaken in a time that is centuries away from when they had lived, and druids who awakened them tried to give them a task. Brennus was having nothing of any errands by the druid and managed to take his clan back to their ancestral keep.

During the attack/rescue the two feel an intense attraction to each other, but neither want to acknowledge the fact. Will these two find a way to live in what is now their time? Will Althea be able to rescue the other captives? Will the two finally acknowledge the feeling between them? Read or listen to the book to find out.

A Great Listen

A great start for a new series. I've listened many time travel books, this one has an unique situation though. One character is drawn from the future and the other is brought back to life from the past. Fate brings them together to defeat an ancient enemy. All characters are well written and very interesting and work well with the plot. The plot is full of action and suspense, you just need keep listening to see what will happen next. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Highlander

Ms Hunter is the one author to get people interested in reading this genre. The wait for Brennus's
book to come out was well worth it. There are emotional times but there were some funny moments.
Althea Jarden, a botanist doctor was gathering samples of ferns to find a cure for a disease that killed her Uncle. During her field work, she was kidnapped along with 4 other women by Murdian and Hendry the evil druids and their giants. Chieftain Brennus Skaraven and his clan died in a battle but they were resurrected by Balthair Flen to fight evil druids and the giants. They were strongest warrior clans and now they are also immortal.
Althea with the help of the other women escaped to get help but along the way she was captured. Brennus came to her aid and fought the giants.
Brennus and others from the clan have never been emotionally or physically close to a woman and now they are seeking sexual release. Althea has always shied from relationships but after meeting Brennus she thought he may be able to change her mind. Althea convinced Brennus and his clan to save the other women and during the fight, she was captured again. By the time Brennus got there, it was too late.
I highly recommend this book to a few of my friends that I know like this gene, I can hardly wait for Cadeyrn's story.

William Macleod as the narrator for these stories has been the ultimate choice. He just brings these stories alive.

Great Story!!!

Okay. So when I was given this book by request for my unbiased review, I had been under the impression that I'd already read this book since I have read the other time travel books by Hazel Hunter. But I hadn't and it was a pleasant surprise. I was like, hey, I don't remember this happening but then I got all the way drawn into the story and it didn't matter anymore.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ms Hunter's world of druids, skaravens and other clans. How utterly entitled and deranged the villains are in these stories is also very intriguing. I also enjoy reading overreaching plots that unfold throughout several books while not leaving you with an actual cliff hanger.

Great writing and great narration.
