Publisher's summary

PI Deets Shanahan takes on the search of his lifetime.

When seventy-one-year-old private investigator Deets Shanahan learns from a snippet of news on the Internet that his brother – who disappeared when they were kids – could be somewhere in Thailand, he immediately sets out, accompanied by his lover, Maureen, to find his errant sibling.

But it turns out that this is much more than finding a missing person who wants to stay missing, and treasure, deceit and murder soon interrupt their search on the streets of Bangkok and on the beaches of Phuket...

unoriginal

A very typical private eye story. This had no real surprises and was like all the other stories like this. An old PI trying to be a tough guy.

Too complicated

The story started out great but then grew to be rather complicated and confusing. I just couldn’t get into it.

Interesting story

Enjoyed the book. Occasionally the narrator seemed to mix up voices, which left me wondering who was speaking, but not for too long.

Enjoyed it

I did really enjoy the story. I appreciate wholesome murder and mayhem, where the hero is able to maintain healthy relationships while fighting interesting crimes, I appreciate the art of story telling and the art in story telling. I loved the characters and their evolution and resolution. What I didn't love was the narration. I'm not sure where the narrator is from, but he definitely does not understand the difference between Midwestern, Southeastern, and Southern American accents and the geographical location of Indiana. At times the characters were from Georgia, at times from Louisiana, though the narration was mostly Midwestern with some Hispanic mixed in. And he has trouble generating different voices.
