About this listen

Would you be hard-pressed to name a famous athlete or football player who hails from “the Roughrider State” of North Dakota? Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, is one solid choice for sure. A product of Bismarck’s Century High School and a star with the North Dakota State University Bison in Fargo, Wentz was drafted by the Eagles in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the second overall pick. Philly fans are notoriously tough to please, but they perked up when Wentz claimed, “I’m a competitive son of a gun. I don’t like losing. I want to be the best out there. I want to lead the troops. I want to kind of take the bull by the horns and be in control.” It could’ve been Rocky Balboa himself talking from the top of that famous stone staircase. Arriving in “the City of Brotherly Love” in 2016, Wentz had some big shoes to fill if he wanted to steer the Eagles back to the Super Bowl. Some consider Donovan McNabb the greatest to ever play the quarterback role for the team from 1999-2009. There was also “the Ultimate Weapon,” scrambler Randall Cunningham (1985-1995), and Ron “Jaws” Jaworski who finally led the Eagles past their dreaded rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, and into the championship game in that magical 1980 campaign. Even Michael Vick had his Philly fan base despite his off-field struggles. Sports Sports & Recreation Combat Sports
