The Story of My Life is the explosive and exhilarating autobiography by the infamous libertine Giacomo Casanova. Intense and scandalous, Casanova's extraordinary adventures take the listener on an incredible voyage across 18th-century Europe - from France to Russia, Poland to Spain and Turkey to Germany, with Venice at their heart. He falls madly in love, has wild flings and delirious orgies, and encounters some of the most brilliant figures of his time, including Catherine the Great, Louis XV and Benjamin Franklin. He holds a verbal dual with Voltaire and finds himself hauled before the court multiple times.

Story
In lyric, accessible prose, Carlo Rovelli invites us to consider questions about the nature of time that continue to puzzle physicists and philosophers alike. For most listeners, this is unfamiliar terrain. We all experience time, but the more scientists learn about it, the more mysterious it appears. We think of it as uniform and universal, moving steadily from past to future, measured by clocks. Rovelli tears down these assumptions one by one, revealing a strange universe where, at the most fundamental level, time disappears.

Story
Evelyn Waugh's most celebrated work is a memory drama about the intense entanglement of the narrator, Charles Ryder, with a great Anglo-Catholic family. Written during World War II, the story mourns the passing of the aristocratic world Waugh knew in his youth and vividly recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by wartime austerities; in so doing it also provides a profound study of the conflict between the demands of religion and the desires of the flesh.

Dean Jocelin has a vision: that God has chosen him to erect a great spire on his cathedral. His mason anxiously advises against it, for the old cathedral was built without foundations. Nevertheless, the spire rises octagon upon octagon, pinnacle by pinnacle, until the stone pillars shriek and the ground beneath it swims. Its shadow falls ever darker on the world below, and on Dean Jocelin in particular. From the author of Lord of the Flies, The Spire is a dark and powerful portrait of one man's will, and the folly that he creates.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Interesting... Not wanting it to stop.
I found this book written in a sought of conversation format. Format without chapters or sections. It was as if you were sitting face to face with Casanova while he while telling you how his "wildest" exhibitions begin. Very interesting. I look forward to reading and studying more on this great seductionist...

A voice that makes the room tremble.
What made the experience of listening to Casanova the most enjoyable?
Let's be honest, if you are a fan of Ben, part of the allure is his voice. Does it really matter what he is reading? But the combination of the floral language and Ben's voice is perfect.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Casanova?
I am a wordsmiths at heart and poetic language is my weakness.
What about Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance did you like?
Ummm.....everything.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. This is my soaking in a warm bubble bath audio book. It is a sensual delight to the ears.
Any additional comments?
Just allow yourself the pleasure of drifting into the story and his voice. You will not regret it. Do not use while driving.
And of course it is not the compleat memoirs. Just enjoy the experience.

Amazing
What made the experience of listening to Casanova the most enjoyable?
it is the book itself, Casanova's appetite for life, experience and adventure is truly inspiring
What was one of the most memorable moments of Casanova?
any of his tryst, so sensual and titillating. his words so irresistible
What does Benedict Cumberbatch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
he's good but i am not crazy about it, Casanova is Italian not British so i don't care for the accent
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
i can't recall, some scenes are still vivid, but i wouldn't say they're moving
Any additional comments?
definitely need the unabridged one

Ben can read to me all day...
Benedict Cumberbatch narrates and is wonderful! He should read everything. I don't think I need to say anything more about that.
As for the story: Casanova's memoirs are fascinating. Whether he actually did all the things he said he did is pretty irrelevant. His memoirs are a great window into 18th century society. For history buffs this is a must read. Also, it is nowhere near as explicit as people seem to think.
