Publisher's summary

Sometimes in life, we can't help who we fall in love with, no matter how hard we try. No matter what type of person they make us become. Wren Porter knew that first hand. Her best friend's brother, Dane Evans, was the only guy she'd ever had eyes for. He was "the one". The one she was supposed to marry someday, to grow old with, but it was hard to love someone who would never love her back.

After revealing to Dane that their one-night-stand had resulted in a pregnancy, she knew that the baby would be her only real link to the boy she loved. After tragedy strikes, Wren was left feeling like her heart would be broken forever. But hearts were made to mend, and people were made to love. And when an unexpected person comes into her life, it forces her to feel, something she hasn't done in a long time. She thought it was too soon, and that she wasn't ready. What she didn't know was that love doesn't come when you expect it or when you're ready. It came crashing in at the craziest of times and when you thought you'd never be able to love again.

Would she ever fully recover from the boy who would forever cause her heartbreak? Because the green-eyed boy wanted her whole heart and nothing less?

It's time to stop running, stop hiding, and start learning where the true escape lies. Everyone will face heartbreak, but not everyone will find love.

An emotional story of strength and love

Any additional comments?

This book was very hard to listen to at the beginning because of the topic it is heart breaking. Wren is pregnant but is not with the baby's father, Dane. She has had a crush on him for years but bad boy Dane has never seen her as anything more than his sisters friend until a drunken night. Wren approaches Dane about the pregnancy and he acts like he doesn't have any responsibility to Wren or the baby. Dane ends up dying from an overdose and the story really gets interesting. This is a tale of love, loss, finding oneself and rediscovering a true love. It was beautifully written, I will say though that sometimes I was sad at how immature Wren seemed to be as she was hung up on this kid crush and felt the need to be faithful to Dane even after he passed away. The narrator Aundrea does a great job with this novel switching between the characters with changes in her voice for the males and females. I didn't feel like she was reading the story but getting into each character and their feelings.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Looks to the future or cling to the past

Regina Bartley has written what I would consider a teen/young adult romance in "Causing Heartbreak." I am at a bit of a disadvantage because I'm starting at book 2 in the unbroken series. However, it does not take much to catch up and Bartley takes only a few minutes to accomplish this. This is greatly appreciated.

Wren Porter is pregnant with the love of her life, Dane Evans, child. However, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with she or the child. Life takes some cruel twists and turns and Wren must travel this road with the support of people who know and love her. These include Dane's sister, Sawyer, Wren's small family and a boy that insists on being a help to her. But no matter what happens, Wren cannot stop thinking of Dane and is wracked with feelings of guilt, sorrow, love and finds it impossible to let her dream go.

I cannot describe anymore of the story without *spoiling* so unfortunately this is all I can give potential listeners.
.
One circumstance made this a bit on the unbelievable side, that is that Wren gets a job offer as an almost live-in nanny through her OB/GYN (male.) Highly inappropriate, as he continues to be her doctor. That is what puts it in the teen/young adult category as opposed to adult contemporary romance, in my opinion.

This is a sweet story and can standalone. Bartley ties up all the important loose ends. Without knowing, my guess is that the third book in the series will revolve around Sawyer.

Aundrea Mitchell (my apologies for misspelling your name in previous reviews) is perfect for this book. Her narration was a bit slow for me but speeding it up to 1.25x was perfect and did not take away from Mitchell's performance. She especially excels with the female characters and her performance of male characters were believable/very good.

Overall a four-star rating

Warning: strong language and intimate scenes

*While I did receive this book in exchange for my unbiased review, I can easily recommend it to those who enjoy mature young adult and/or contemporary romance. This is for audiences ages 17+ due to the language and mature content.

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrat

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Kindof. The story was passable. there were a few parts where i rolled my eyes but that's not a bad thing, it happens with a lot of good books too. Some of the things Wren says just doesn't fit for her character, they just seem to be add-ins to make her seem "younger and hip" that could have been left out, but them not fitting might have something to do with how the narrator spoke also.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Very predictable ending, but good.

Would you be willing to try another one of Aundrea Mitchell’s performances?

No. This is the 3rd performance i have listed to from Aundrea Mitchell. To me how she pronounces words like "oin" instead of on, or "oh gawd" instead of "oh god" detracts from the story telling and makes me cringe a bit. the slight lispy sound of her voice could be ignored if not for the pronunciation of some words.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

More of the story from before the book began.

A little too young for me

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

While entertaining, I just had a problem getting into the book. The characters are too young and immature for me to really enjoy the storyline. Wren, a college freshman is "in love" with her brother's best friend. After a one night stand, she is pregnant. After telling Dane, he is rude and ends up overdosing, leaving Wren to deal with the baby on her own. She seeks out counseling and meets Bentley. He is the son of her psychiatrist and he sees her as a person, not a messed up, pregnant teen.

Wren continues an internal struggle as her relationship with Bentley progresses. Is she cheating on Dane and letting him down? Can she actually be falling for someone other than Dane? Bentley does his best to convince her he is there for the long haul, he wants to be part of her life and the baby's. Give this a listen to find out how it turns out.

This is book 2 of the series. I think if I had listened to book one first and had some background, the story would have been better, but this can definitely stand alone.

Aundrea Mitchell is a wonderful narrator. She does the new adult genre a great service with her performance.

Good story

Story was good. I didn't care much for the voice of the narrator, but you get use to it. Give it a chance. "This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

I can't. I barely made it thru the first 2 chapter

What disappointed you about Causing Heartbreak?

I was gifted this copy of Causing Heartbreak in exchange for an honest review.

OMG the narrator, it's almost impossible to get past her and actually hear the story. Her male voice is muffled and impossible to understand and her female voice was ridiculous. Over acted, and amplified the poor script.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have a few in my WTR list.

What didn’t you like about Aundrea Mitchell’s performance?

I believe I summed it up fairly accurately above.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Causing Heartbreak?

Well, I probably would have scrapped the whole thing and started over. The male character from what I could hear was a simple, self absorbed, selfish, over dramatic punk.
Wren's mother was completely unrealistic and wren herself had the thought process and was written like a young teen..

Any additional comments?

I hate that I couldn't even listen to it long enough to give the actual story a thorough review, my apologies to the author.
