About this listen
Cavern of Life: The Becoming is a novella of approximately 13,700 words. It is the first book in a four-novella paranormal romance series.
Abby's life is just beginning. It is the time of her college graduation, and she has become an accomplished chef and a lovely young woman. Little does she know, she is about to face a whole new phase of her life — and an entirely different “becoming”.
When tragedy strikes, Abby is driven to return to her hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, despite her avoiding the area due to a childhood accident that has left her scarred. Rising up from the tragedy, Abby finds herself faced with compelling reasons to settle down permanently in Salem. As if this decision weren't overwhelming enough, Abby finds herself having memory lapses, fighting off the strange mayor of the town, and continuing a confusing romance with Jake, a love she had left behind when she went off to college. As the pieces begin to come together, things only become more confusing and challenging for Abby. She discovers a supernatural side of herself she didn't even believe in, and she must learn to adapt quickly when a great evil threatens Salem.
Can Abby harness her newly-found abilities while navigating the extreme tides of change and mysterious forces that are overrunning her life?

All the feels!
As an avid listner, I can honestly say that few others have been able to create the sense of community I found in this book. Three shifters out to commune with nature accidentally find themselves in charge of a pack that desperately needs help healing the scars left by the former alpha. Filled with quiet moments and small children who will steal your heart, I would definitely be sure to have the time to finish this in one sitting. Beautifully written. I can’t wait for the second one to be released.

Always Uplifting.
I bought this book without listening the preview or reviews because it was an Larissa Ladd. For some reason I still struggle with first person present tense when listening, but that did not stop me from listening her shifter story straight through to the end in one sitting. I will probably relisten it more slowly in the next few days.

A New Genre but the Same Joy of listening
love Larissa Ladd's writing. I've said it many times before but her characters and lyrical narrative are the gold standard for craft in the SFF domain.I laughed and cried and felt such joy in this story. If you've listen her Karma Corps novels, you'll feel the same tone and character interaction but in a totally different setting. For these are Weres in a forest, trying to create a pack out of one which has become totally dysfunctional due to a narcissistic, manical alpha who uses fear and torture as leadership tools. What follows is both a study in social dynamics and the consequences of abuse as well as a heart moving lesson in recovery and the impact of love and trust

Loved it!
I love this first story.....I don't know if the author would agree but i find the feeling reminiscent of the witch series that she penned a number of years ago. I have since tried some of her different series, but could never embrace them fully.....until now....I look forward to the next one. My only complaint is that i got nothing done all day, forgoing my work to indulge in reading instead.

Awsome
This new series of Larissa Ladd's is amazing. Like all of her books it shows the love, compassion, struggles, acceptance that all "families" deal with. The strength of the characters, the way they deal with things, the belief that anything is possible, the support they give each other and the extraordinary characters make this a must read. I can't wait until the next book comes out.
