Publisher's summary

"The master of espionage writing at his brilliant best" -Mail on Sunday

With the Cold War drawing to a close in the East, Bernard Samson is still haunted by the events that have turned his life upside down over the last ten years. But when he takes a train from Moscow to Berlin, he stumbles across a clue that may lead him to the truth at last—even though, in finding the answers, he could lose everything. Bringing the Faith, Hope, and Charity trilogy and Bernard Samson's story to a stunning conclusion, this final volume brilliantly shows the human cost of the spying game.

"The series represents a magnificent achievement in the field of espionage writing and Samson remains one of the great spies" -Irish Times

Culmination

I don’t know why exactly I find such a profound sense of connection to the Bernard Samson character. I suppose with nine installments there is ample time for character development. This last volume involves so much explication of this character’s depth and reveals so much of the mysteries he has struggled with, and vindicates his integrity, that it brings much satisfaction. Except it leaves me (desperately?) wishing Mr. Deighton had lived longer and written more.

Great series

Just finishing the ten book Samson series, I will miss all the characters. Each one I can picture perfectly in my mind. The weaving of the story through all the books, read like one great cinematic journey. Don’t forget Winter, it’s a great back story and after listening to all, I might go back to listen to it again. The narration is perfect.
