About this listen
If you discovered a world of magic existed just beyond the reach of ordinary people, would you be willing to risk everything to explore its secrets?
A bundle of awkwardness and social anxiety, Charlie Lavender isn’t sure about starting her freshman year in small-town Normal, Illinois. Little does she know her new best friend, a love triangle, and…a magical owl(?) are waiting for her in the Fall of 1993.
She definitely didn’t expect ominous priests, probable witches, and a secret, several-thousand-year-old war would also become part of everyday life. Welcome to Normal, where nothing ever is. As she and her newfound friends search for the truth about a world of magic just out of view, the real question is, can Charlie accept the last thing she ever expected to happen? For the first time ever, she’s fitting in.
Charlie Lavender and the Origin of Everything Volume One is the perfect listen for fans of Supernatural or Stranger Things, discover more when you download this thrilling adventure today.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

Wow. Just Wow.
This was everything I needed I'm a fantasy book. Between the Nostalgia, the magic system and the world builder, I am extremely happy with this book and can't wait for the next!

GREAT WORLD BUILDING
Charlie Lavender and the Origin of Everything Volume One is a great story that mixes sci-fi and fantasy in a interesting way. Carson Bowie has created a world that starts in a very intimate setting of a 90s High School in Illinois. But quickly hints at a much larger universe which encompasses the 'real world' and a much broader magical universe.
The main characters in the story are fun to get to know and the villains are believable and complex and REALLY evil (as all good villains should be!!).
He delivers diverse characters with depth and interesting motivations with great dialogue and story arcs, while also delivering fast paced action and tense scenes. It is a really fun read or listen!
Carson delivers a really original take on a world of magic and science, his take is clearly grounded in extensive research into Eastern and western mythology and religions, he merges them beautifully, in realistic and grounded way. You can almost believe it exists!
Looking forward to the next volume! I'm hooked.

Worth the wait!
God I loved this book when it came out and devoured it regardless of the fact that there wasn’t an audio companion. Now that it’s out, I’ve already ripped through it again and can’t wait to do it some more.
This story is deep with Easter eggs, hints for the future, and handles complexities in science and magic in a way that not only feels natural but new and fresh. The depth of world building also proves Carson is not only trying to make this the best book I’ve read in years but also that he’s looking far into the future of these characters in each decision we see made along the way.
The narrator nailed it. Her Irish accent sounds vaguely Russian at times but what she did with bringing the world of Normal to life was phenomenal.
I’m currently 30 min from the end and already feel like I’m going to have to replay it again so I can do it all again.

.
I read this when it was originally published and absolutely loved it. The chosen narrator brought a new life to the characters and story.
This is a coming of age story full of magic, mystery, science, and an evil force that I did not see coming. And it's full of 90s nostalgia. I loved watching Charlie's character grow throughout the story.
