The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Looking to heal? Get this!
I bought Childhood Trauma and Recovery: Healing Your Inner Child by Callie Parker because sometimes it’s hard to identify when past traumas are shaping our present lives. I found myself struggling to understand why certain emotional patterns kept resurfacing, and I wanted a resource that could pinpoint those experiences. Parker’s book provides a clear roadmap to healing without overwhelming you. Her step-by-step approach makes it feel like she’s holding your hand through the process.
What really stood out was how she explains complex ideas in simple language. I also appreciated how the book emphasizes practical techniques that don’t require reliving traumatic memories, which is crucial for anyone feeling apprehensive about revisiting painful parts of their past. With references to renowned experts like Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, this book feels both grounded and supportive. If you’ve tried therapy or self-help books before and felt stuck, this might be the guide you’ve been looking for. I’m glad I picked it up—it’s already helping me recognize the patterns I need to work through for true healing.

Helps you move on from a troubling past
This audiobook provided the groundwork for first understanding childhood trauma. Then, how to deal with it.
I have found a new freedom already by just analyzing my emotions and applying the tips in this book for not letting these negative emotions drag me down.
Some who read or listen to this book will also have to admit to themselves that their defense mechanisms such as simply living in denial really haven't been working.
Since so many people have experienced childhood trauma, it really is a good idea to get this book. Sure, it's a spoonful of medicine, but the cure is better than living with the illness.

Finding and Loving Myself Again
The combination of this book and the workbook that you can get to go with it has been incredibly powerful in my life. The book provides the knowledge and understanding, while the workbook offers a hands-on approach to implementing the techniques. The book is very relatable and you'll feel like the author has been through your exact struggles as you listen. The summary and reflection questions at the end were really nice to go through (though I still ended up ordering the workbook, which I loved!). This is truly a good book to listen to if you've been through it and feel like you lost yourself a bit in the process. This book will help you get to know and love you again!

A true education!
I have so enjoyed this book. It gives an overview of childhood trauma and recovery, giving you a broad spectrum of why things might be the way they are. I think it is exhaustive of how we respond to our trauma and why things are the way they are in our lives. I will have to listen again and process how my traumas manifest in my current life. The book is an education on the subject but it also gently deals with the heart to explain your stuck position and lead you out to peace and self-love. Highly recommended if you feel stuck in life and feel it stems from early childhood trauma of any kind. Understanding might give you the peace you need and help you to regulate where you feel upside down.
