About this listen

The contributions of Greek thought to science and to philosophy is widely recognized. However, its instrumental role in the spread of Christianity is often overlooked. In this work, B.F. Cocker has given a comprehensive review of Greek philosophy from the Christian perspective. He shows how the development of philosophy prepared humanity for the reception of the Christian doctrine and the faith of salvation. From faith in the presence of the Supreme Being to the immortality of the soul, Greek philosophy primed man to receive the doctrine of redemption. Cocker brilliantly demonstrates the influence of the hand of providence in the development of Greek life and culture. He also makes a strong argument for the use of reason to lead the way to faith, an argument which has the potential to reconcile the opposing forces of philosophical history.

A chapter-by-chapter summary precedes the narration of the text. The summary includes a short biography of the author and the background information of the work, as well as an overview, synopsis, and analysis of the text. The summary also includes an examination of the historical context of the work and investigates both its social impact and the criticisms which it evoked.

This work is a must-hear for any interested in philosophy or theology, and an essential tool to show the reason inherent in the way of faith.

Good book. very informative.

Lots of good material in this book. The narrator can be a bit brutal at times but overall worth the read.
