About this listen

The story in Church Aflame was written one year ago and Thomas Road Baptist Church is still growing. At present the Sunday School is averaging over 6,000 pupils each week. Over 2,000 people ride the buses and the church now has over 200 fulltime and part-time employees on the staff. Lynchburg Baptist College was still a dream when Church Aflame was first printed. The first year 205 full and part-time students were registered and the entire student body in good-standing was given a free trip to Israel as part of their education. Next year over 1,000 students are expected in the second year of operation and a free trip to London, England will be awarded to the students. The Lynchburg Christian Academy had over 600 students this past year and also is expecting 1,000 in 1972-73 school year. The Old-Time Gospel Hour is presently viewed on nearly 200 television stations and the daily 30-minute radio broadcast is heard on almost 100 stations. These statistics of growth reflect the blessings of God. “And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:47) Elmer Towns and Jerry Falwell Co-authors of Church Aflame Jerry Falwell has been the pastor of Thomas Road since its organization in 1956. He writes about the church from a warm, personal viewpoint. Elmer Towns, author of “The Ten Largest Sunday Schools,” writes with insights from his studies of large church growth. The book reflects their combined thinking and conclusions. Christian Living England Student
