About this listen

A trunk, a dagger, a map, and a...cat?

When her aunt passes away, she leaves Kaidyn an old trunk of bizarre contents and one of her cats. After accidentally opening a portal, Kaidyn is thrown into a country divided by a massive wall and overwhelmed with ancient magic.
Thrust between two royal houses, both claiming rights to the throne, Kaidyn isn't sure who or what to believe. One thing soon becomes clear: she is the next Keeper of the Keys, an ancient lineage of human women tasked with balancing the wild magic and serving the true monarch of Evirness.
Kaidyn must overcome the self-doubt that plagues her from a birth deformity with the help of a formidable guard captain and unlikely friends if she ever wishes to find her way home.
Times are strange in Evirness, and Kaidyn is the only one who can bring down the wall and stop the gateways from wreaking havoc, but will she fulfill her ancestral duties or run back to the safety of her own world?

Strong build up

This story leaves you wanting more! Each detail is imperative to the world of Evirness and its Characters. I loved how the the narrator was able to bring the story to life with different perspectives and voices. There were a couple of hiccups but overall all I enjoyed the performance. Solid book, solid characters. Already downloaded the second book!

Love the live narrator!

I had listened to this one before with the AI narration and, while I adored the story, it really lacked the character I was craving. The new narrator brought so much more life and feeling to everything. There are a couple of voices that weren't my favorite, but overall I think they did an amazing job!

The Surprise of Falling Through A Portal

I was entertained by this self-realization story. I enjoyed the world-building of Evirness and its wild magic. I followed Kaidyn's journey as she traversed the pitfalls of the land and weaved her way through the complexity of two royal houses in order to determine the true rulers of Evirness. I liked the character growth which Kaidyn underwent as she seemed to be a young nineteen year old when she was first introduced. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I was entertained by Zeynep Cag's narration, although there were a couple of mis-steps during the performance. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
