About this listen
Three things to know about this book before you buy it:
1. If you can't handle jokes about Jesus being cranky when he was hungry - turn back now.
2. If you think that the disciples were perfect men - prepare to be disillusioned.
3. If you think Jesus only has really smart and gifted people for friends - guess again.
Are you up for a crazy ride through Scripture? Do you want to be in on the jokes and the hidden treasures in many of the passages you thought you knew by heart? Do you want to know how, despite the inevitable weaknesses of our human nature, God has a plan for us? If you said yes, then this book is for you.
In Clueless in Galilee: A Fresh Take on the Gospels, author Mac Barron assures us that Jesus loves us, even though we're human. We know this, because the Bible says so. Over and over and over again. With its hilarious, sometimes irreverent, and always humble reflections, this book will make you laugh and help you look at the Bible - and yourself - in a whole new way.
“Funny and off-kilter in the best way, Mac Barron will help you look with fresh eyes at people in the Bible you thought you knew and discover that they were all too human.” (Bishop Robert Reed, The CatholicTV Network)

Because in becoming human, Jesus made it possible for us to see God. His tears, God’s tears. His voice, God’s voice. Want to know what matters to God? Find out what matters to Jesus. Want to know what in the world God is doing? Ponder the words and life of Jesus.

Story
King's Cross is Timothy Keller's revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. There have been many biographies of Jesus, but few will be as anticipated as this one by Keller, the man Newsweek calls "a C. S. Lewis for the 21st century". In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God.

Story
Too many people stumble through life with an inaccurate view of who God is. They believe in His existence, but don't know how to relate to Him in a practical and meaningful way. As a result, they fail to achieve anything beyond a superficial relationship with their Creator, and live less-than-fulfilling lives. In Whatever, God, Fr. Anthony Messeh shares his unique story and the lessons he's learned that helped him go from a "don't get too close to God because He might ruin your life" Christian, to a fully devoted "I can't get enough of God in my life" believer.

To grasp the depth and height of the great I AM and to live life with the end (eternity) in sight is a believer's most significant accomplishment. Within each of His chosen people, God has placed a desire to know him, to worship him, and to live victoriously for him. He has shown us how to have the right perspective concerning this life and the one to come. And what God starts, he finishes.

God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each. Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers.

Story
Common people. Maybe you heard their names in a childhood Sunday school class. They're not often the champions or the go-to sermon illustrations. They probably didn't stand at the foot of the cross or even hang next to Jesus on one of their own. But they pepper the pages of the Bible, reminding us that we're not alone. Just like you and me, these ordinary people stumbled and struggled. They faced their own sin and came face-to-face with a God who not only wipes it away, but also makes the common extraordinary.

New York Times best-selling author and pastor Max Lucado urges us to exchange the pressure of accomplishment for the peace of God’s grace.

Rebecca McLaughlin shares important biblical context to help all listeners see why the Gospels should be taken seriously as historical documents. Exploring eyewitness testimony about Jesus, McLaughlin points to him as a first-century Jewish man who is the Son of God, King of the Jews, mighty healer, greatest teacher, lover of sinners, suffering servant, perfect sacrifice, and universal Lord. This follow-up to her first book, Confronting Christianity, helps listeners understand the message of the Gospels and explore who Jesus really is.

Lame humor + mediocre theology = ugh
Maybe the humor works better on the page - it doesn't on the audio book. some of it is overly simple "men do this! women be that!" but some was just lame dad jokes. There was a point to be made here about WHY the disciples are written this way, but the author doesn't make it. Instead, it is all played as literal truth, which is not what catholics believe. I mean...modern catholic theology doesn't believe Jonah was literally inside a whale for 3 days. And the disciples were written this way for real reasons...but none of that is explored.
