About this listen

Can the Black Sheep of the Family be its Guardian Angel?

Cole Dust opens with inheriting a farm in the small town of Orvin, Oklahoma from a cousin he never knew. When investigative journalist Cole Sage stumbles upon an old trunk in the attic of his family’s farmhouse, he unearths something far more valuable than gold. Inside, neatly bound and yellowed with age, are the journals of his grandfather, George Sage—an enigmatic man Cole barely knew. These journals pull Cole into a story from the past, one that intertwines with his own life in ways he never expected.

As Cole delves deeper into his grandfather’s writings, he uncovers a hidden world of love, betrayal, racism, and tragedy set against the backdrop of the history of 20th-century America. Two World Wars, The Dust Bowl, and The Great Depression, the stories shake Cole's understanding of his family history. Journal after journal Cole finds a man he wishes he had not be kept from.

In Cole Dust’s book within a book narrative, two timelines converge: one man’s search for the truth in the present, and another’s desperate fight for survival in the past. Cole finds that the social problems of the past, alcohol and gambling addiction, racism, poverty, and despair are not that far removed from the same problems we face today.

As the past collides with the present, Cole must unravel the mysteries of the journals before the secrets they hold fade into the dust of time.

Readers are thrilled with Cole Dust!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I read this with the idea that it would be a typical "Whodunit." In fact, this story of one family, told by a current-day newspaper reporter, details the life of the reporter's grandfather, as revealed in a just-discovered series of diaries kept by the grandfather. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what wonderful or tragic turn it would take next. Definitely in the same league as John Jakes' Civil War stories. Highly recommended" – Walt

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I laughed and cried and couldn't stop reading it. This will remain one of those books I will re-read over and over. I highly recommend this book - it touched my heart!" - Margaret Strout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "His best yet! This book would also stand alone and could easily be recommended for readers who don't usually go for the thrillers & mystery genre, I find it hard to envisage anyone who wouldn't like this book (though I'm sure you're out there somewhere!)." – Amazonian

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A week ago I had never heard of Cole Sage or Micheal Maxwell, but once I got into the first book, I bought the rest of the series. They are without doubt the most satisfying books I have read in a long, long time. Don't rush them, savor them!"- Linda Thomas

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I have read all four of these books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Cole is the sort of character that you really want as a friend. I do hope some more will be joining these. I did in fact enjoy them so much I have just read 1 and 2 again." – Janet Baker
