About this listen

When Special Agent Clay Jennings and his K9 partner, Ranger, take to the streets of Denver to fight human trafficking, he is shocked by the inordinate number of stolen innocents who’ve been forced into the sex trade. With each new face, his resolve to help these children escape their personal horror grows stronger. El Clark, a social worker who dedicates her life to rescuing exploited kids from the streets, works valiantly to locate their families or find them a safe place to live while they recuperate. She understands the plight of these young victims more than anyone knows.

When these two champions of enslaved children team up, they discover a web of deviant corruption that reaches into the upper echelons of US politics and society. Adding to the nightmare, a vicious serial killer focused on murdering female prostitutes threatens to pull Clay and El away from unearthing the man behind the treacherous, Colorado-based, child prostitution ring.

For Clay, working to solve these crimes is like taking one step forward and three back until El shares her story with him. Inspired by her bravery and fortitude, he is re-committed to the fight for justice. Clay and El battle against a mountain power and money the height of which they’d never conceived and end up building a strong bond with one another along the way. El teaches Clay that every life they change matters - that they must do what they can, even when it’s only one child at a time.

Great Story

We will never be able to stop trafficking, but this book shows that there are many people that try to help. It’s graphic in context, but it shows what happens to the children who are victims.

Intriguing

A realistic story of what happens to young people. Kidnapped and forced to work the streets. Fast paced.

Great read!

The subject matter and plot is very provocative. I'm not really a fan of romance but there wasn't so much that it turned me away, probably just enough to get a feel good vibe for most people but a little too sugary for me personally. I appreciated the lack of voyeuristic sex scenes, especially since I listen often when my grandkids are in earshot and I don't have to make a mad dash for the phone suddenly.
The narration was spot on. The mystery was good though no big plot twists sadly and I always enjoy a happy ending.

K-9 dogs are a person's best friend

This book is both engaging and frightening. It details sex trafficking of minors. The story revolves around Clay, an FBI agent assigned to a sex trafficking task force. his trained dog, Ranger, and El, a social services worker. Ranger, while a trained attack dog, shows an extreme empathy for the victims he and Clay encounter. Ranger is also instrumental in bringing Clay and El together. I enjoyed the story, but was disturbed by the sex trafficking. That was very eye opening. It leads me to want to find ways to make a difference.

Another well-written thril from a very good author

Concealed Cargo: Children for Sale (FBI-K9 #3), my fifth read from author Jodi Burnett. Well-written with intriguing characters and a captivating storyline. Kimberly Austin's narration made this re-read of a book I'd previously read all the more enjoyable! “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll definitely be reading more from this author and look forward to the Flint River series next. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A tough subject with a happy ending

Concealed Cargo is the third book in Jodi Burnett's FBI K-9 series. This book deals with the subject of human trafficking and child pornagraphy/ sexual abuse. Jodi brings the horrible topic alive and at times I found myself with tears of frustration that the problem seemed so utterly hopeless. Much like her main character Clay Jennings felt. But Clay was supported by the unsinkable female protagonist, Elle Clark. Elle reminded Clay that with a problem as pervasive as human trafficking, a person could only focus their energy on saving one life at a time. She reminded Clay of the "butterfly effect" our actions often have on others lives. We often can't see the effect our lives have as the effect is just a whisper here but maybe a roar later in the future. I love how Jodi Burnett uses strong brave women who have suffered much in their past , to teach us readers profound lessons. Then, against all odds, she delivers a happily ever after ending! This is the third book I have listened to and she has never failed to deliver, drama suspense and romance all in one novel! Bravo
In an Audible selection though the book is only as good as the person reading and preforming the prose. In Concealed Cargo that is Kimberly Austin and her performance is magnificent! Kimberly reads with just the right speed and voice e.phasis to convey the urgency or terror of the scene. As the action twists a d turns like roller coaster, Kimberly recitation does, too. You feel as though you a part of the scene. Kimberly Austin performance of Concealed Cargo is Reader's theater at its finest. I can hardly wait to hear Mile High Mayhem, book 4 in the series!

A tough read

I really enjoy Jodi’s writing, but I almost stopped listening to this one d/t the tragic subject of Human Trafficking, involving children, especially. Knowing that this plaque is prevalent all over the world and the US playing a major part in this sick crisis, I felt like I should finish the story to help me learn some of what these kids are going through. Thankfully Jodi wrote it without going deeper than she did or could, possibly.
I think she did a great job. That’s why I gave her 5 stars.

Hard Topic

I can’t imagine the difficulty of researching and writing this story. It’s an important story that needs to be told more, no matter how hard it is to take in. God bless this author for taking on this topic in such a real way!

Another great listen

With this series, I wonder if I will like as much as the last. I enjoyed this one more than the others. It is a heartbreaking subject, but it goes on everyday around us. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I was provided a copy to listen to.

A Powerful Story

Jodi Burnett has written a very moving story that tells the tale of human trafficking where young children are forced into the sex trade. It is not an easy story to listen to but Jodi handles the story with brilliance and compassion. I encourage others to realize that although this story is fiction, it is based on something that is really happening in the US today. Kimberly Austin's narration is poignant. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
