L’œuvre majeure du Rabbin Moïse Almosnino (1515-1580), « Conduite de Vie », demeure à ce jour une référence incontournable de la littérature classique judéo-espagnole, enfin disponible en français dans une première traduction.
D’abord publiée en ladino en 1564 sous le titre de Sefer Hanhagat ha-ayyim, et en 1729 sous « Regimiento de la vida », cette édition en trois volumes fait partie de la prestigieuse collection Veritas è terra orietur. L’introduction de Jean-Pierre Rothschild, directeur de recherche au CNRS et directeur d'études à l'EPHE, spécialisé en philosophie médiévale, éclaire le lecteur sur les fondements et les enjeux de l'œuvre.
Le premier tome vise à donner des conseils pratiques pour mener une bonne vie dès le plus jeune âge. Il accentue la distinction entre les biens spirituels, physiques et externes (chapitres 1-3), incluant des propositions sur les habitudes alimentaires, le sommeil et le réveil, le coucher et le lever, la marche et la position assise, la parole et le silence (chapitres 4-10),
les 4 types de discours (chapitre 11), pourquoi les justes meurent jeunes (chapitre 11).
Enfin, il aborde des questions sur l'eschatologie, la philosophie classique et la théodicée (chapitres 12-14).
« Conduite de Vie » s'inspire largement de l'Éthique à Nicomaque, mais dépasse cette source en s'inscrivant à l'intersection universelle de plusieurs traditions : la philosophie gréco-arabe, la scolastique judéo-chrétienne, le judaïsme classique séfarade et la pensée juive médiévale. Ainsi, cet ouvrage contribue à la paix et à la compréhension interculturelle des peuples.
