About this listen

Ellen Montgomery wants nothing more than to live her life on her terms. However when her father catches her riding his favorite stallion astride and in her brothers breeches no less, he decides to send Ellen to Paris for some much-needed polish before the London season. Ellen is soon fascinated with the lords she meets, but only one makes her blood burn in more ways than one!

Christopher Fairfax, the new earl of Durham, has sworn off women; they are nothing but trouble. But he soon finds himself intrigued by his best friend’s younger sister, a wild little hellion who won’t listen to reason and won’t stay out of his head.

Ellen and Christopher both find themselves courting danger when they find a common enemy in Lord Darby, a ruthless man wanted by the crown for murder. A man determined to gain Ellen’s hand and therefore her fortune in marriage by any means necessary. Ellen and Christopher must work together to stop him before it’s too late.

I tried. I really did but the narrator and story are just too annoying in my opinion.

I tried but just couldn’t get past the narrator’s voice - the felt that the pacing was inconsistent and the voices too nasal.
Also, the story drove me nuts. Initially the summary included all the elements I was looking for - a suspenseful regency romance. The “bad guy” was predictable and strait out of a melodrama. I fully expect him to monologue over the damsel as he twists his mustache. The romance had potential- but he is more than 10 years older than she and was an unforgivable jerk to her at the beginning.
I tried. I really did but I’m stopping more than a third of the way through.

Excellent Story & Narration

The author has done her research in bringing this story to life in the fashions and having servants. One wonders if there weren’t more women like Ellen, wanting life on her terms, or rather to be free to riding a stallion in breeches. Knowing it was not at a gallop and feeling the winds and freedom. She finds her soul mate in Chris, a passion, and intrigue. Then there is another man who is set on greed to marry her fortune. Well done as was the narration which added to this story. Engaging Storyline

From the beginning to the very end this is such an action filled story with a great plot!
Well worth a credit! This is Book 1 Agents for the Crown series.
The Earl of Fairfax wants nothing to do with marriage. Until he meets Miss. Ellen Montgomery. As they get to know each other they find themselves falling in love. Unfortunately for them there is a mad vengeful Duke wanted by the Crown, but he wants Ellen at any cost! Meanwhile, as this captivating story progresses I loved the flow of it. There’s suspense, action , tragedy and a beautiful blossoming romance.
I enjoyed how their romance developed throughout the book and the attention to details by the author. I loved the balls and the gowns and the dance cards! So accurate to this era. The secondary characters added to the story. The ending was so beautiful and of course happily ever after 💖💖
