About this listen

The number one rule in life: never make a deal with Death…even if Death is your sister.

Theodra, Goddess of War, knows not to break this rule. But like all arrogant gods, she does just that. Unable to hold back, she destroys a ship full of traffickers, unaware there are girls on board. When one of them dies, Theo trades with Death for a soul she will someday love. A soul for a soul. A good deal, in her esteemed opinion, since she is incapable of falling in love.

Unfortunately, Theo might have been mistaken.

Thirteen years later, as a punishment for killing too many wicked men, she is sentenced to play as a mortal in a deadly tournament called The Sacrifice. The games are played in pairs, and her partner is the sinfully handsome Prince Kellyn. Even though they despise one another and can barely work together, sexual tension burns between them. But if their hatred turns to love, it will cost Kellyn his life, for Death is always waiting to collect.

Courting War is a new adult fantasy romance novel and is a standalone book within a larger series. Featured tropes include: enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity (only-one-bed), forbidden love, and immortals. It is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Carissa Broadbent, and Rebecca Yarros.

Yes a Villainous FMC!!! I’ve been needing this!

Theo is an unapologetically bold and wicked main character and I am here for it!!! She kills evil men for fun and is the best embodiment of female rage I’ve seen in a long time!

I can see how some romantasy readers wouldn’t like Kellyn because he’s not your typical confident morally grey character but his disability representation meant the world to me! Plus he’s the book boyfriend you would want in real life!

Loved the narration - Great listen

I enjoyed this book, especially the narrators, I think it helped the story come alive. We have such a great characters in Theo and Kellan. The story itself was fast paced and kept me intrigued with the trials and the story of the Gods involvement in the sacrifice that happens every read. Overall, if really enjoyed this. If you like books inspired by the gods, fantasy, romance, trials, and the like, I think you will enjoy this one!

Good Read

I loved the foundation that this book set up for follow on stories. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that I wish we had a bit more character development in the supporting characters, but I’m sure that might come later. Not quite sure what happened between the last 30 seconds of chapter 41 and the start of chapter 42 but there is something wrong there audio wise. I highly recommend though.

Mediocre at best

I’m all for a stand alone book but this ain’t it. It started fairly decent but the self loathing from the mmc became too much. Honestly, i hate i even finished this book
