Publisher's summary
For the first time Kate sees her life clearly: her dreams of becoming a caterer; the delicate yet combustible relationship she shares with her mother; and the unflagging support of her two best friends.
Kate finds the courage to make a break and energized by her newfound freedom, she creates a life all her own.
Buoyant and deeply moving, Cover the Butter proves that starting over has nothing to do with age and everything to do with spirit.
Critic reviews
Winner, AudioFile Earphones Award, 2007
"The dialogue is...exact; scenes play out fluidly and are nicely detailed, particularly in Kate's sophisticated foodyism. Kabak...does tell Kate's story with warmth and humor." (Publishers Weekly)
"This is a charming, compassionate look at how one woman discovers that self-fulfillment shouldn't be postponed forever." (Booklist)

Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Story
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Easy read and very entertaining 💛
This was our March book for book club. Very easy read and very entertaining. I found myself thinking about Kate and wanting to get back to the book as much as possible.
And the reader had a really nice voice which made it easy to listen to and to connect with the different characters.

Absolutely Wonderful!
I absolutely loved this book! It was unabridged, and 10 wonderful hours of listening to narrator Kate Reading who really did “perform.” She used different voices for each character, and has the most delightful British accent. She also knows how to speak in “American” as well as Welsh and French. I came to really care about the main character, Kate, and felt I knew her well. Very good book, one of the best of the year so far! Refreshing!

Well Read/ Entertaining
So good to be able to share different opinions on books. I found Kate Readings narration to be wonderful! Not anything near annoying.
The story hit a cord with me, perhaps because I am the same age as the main character and can empathize. I enjoyed listening to the book and cheered Kate Cadogan to the finish!

Fabulous!
I struggled with this book: I wanted to know what was happening to Kate, but I didn't want the book to end! I loved the main character, Kate, and cheered for her as she grew and changed and WON!
I wish, wish, wish, that Carrie Kabak would write another novel - I loved her writing style, the storyline, and the emotions that all the characters brought me. Please Ms. Kabak, bring us more!
Kate Reading is an excellent narrator - I'm looking forward to finding more offerings from her.

lame
The problem with this book is that you have to go through 40 years of the main character as a depressed doormat before you get to her "moment of empowerment," which comes in the form of a decision to divorce.....And it's a looong book. There's nothing about this character that makes me want to cheer her on.
Good narration, though.
