About this listen

Betrayed by someone she trusted...

After attempting to take her own life, Willow's parents move her to a small town in hope to have a fresh start. The relationship with her mother strained, Willow's hate grows toward her mother when she threatens to homeschool her.

Feeling alone and worthless, she finds a friend who shares similar struggles. Bree and Willow are alike in so many ways - both cast aside by others their age and both afraid to tell anyone their secret. But when Willow can't fight the memories of the horror she's lived through - she can no longer tell what is real and what isn't.

...she does the unthinkable to set herself free....

Her fragile soul no longer whole, what's left is damaged and cracked.

Just because this audiobook didn’t meet my expectations, this is only my opinion, so you may get more out of it than I did. I greatly appreciate the author giving me a free copy of this audiobook to review and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and feedback. I want to strongly emphasize that I am not criticizing the content because I was well aware that it would be upsetting and disturbing. If anything, I praise her on writing about something that is such a serious and growing problem that people need to be more acutely aware of. I praise her for her clarity of the main character’s emotions, the depictions of the events of the trauma addressed, and her efforts in writing this. In my opinion, it wasn’t altogether realistic though. Although the feelings of the main character and the scenarios were, some of the facts weren’t. A patient with such a magnitude of issues, history, and depression would’ve most likely been offered medication (if her parents allowed it), but that was never mentioned. In addition to that, she definitely would not have been placed in hospital wards with any type of glass or mirrors. The author overused words and phrases, so by the time I finished, I was tired of hearing the same repetitive phrases of things that could’ve been described with a variety of words. Part of it was predictable, but that’s ok. I also felt that she needed to include more information about the characters and events (her parents, their lives prior to what life was like before the trauma, the after effects of the ending, and about the therapy sessions). I do think the author has the potential of going further, and her guts to write about such serious topics can possibly gain her more literary attention, so I hope she continues writing. Best of luck, and I encourage her to keep trying!

I did not enjoy this book. Not so much because of the topic, I did read the warning ahead of time. I found the ending too rushed and left more questions about the characters. I understand this is supposed to depict a stage in the main characters life, however, with such a serious story line, I just wanted more than what was given. Also, having listened to this book, certain parts sounded different such as the announcement of the chapter, it was as if it had been recorded separately and added in later.
