About this listen

Do right, fear nothing.

Sam Hopkins is a good kid who has fallen in with the wrong crowd. Hanging around with car thieves and thugs, Sam knows it’s only a matter of time before he makes one bad decision too many and gets into real trouble.

But one day, Sam sees these friends harassing an eccentric schoolmate named Jennifer. Finding the courage to face the bullies down, Sam loses a bad set of friends and acquires a very strange new one.

Jennifer is not just eccentric. To Sam, she seems downright crazy. She has terrifying hallucinations involving demons, the devil, and death. And here’s the really crazy part: Sam is beginning to suspect that these visions may actually be prophecies - prophecies of something terrible that’s going to happen very soon. Unless he can stop it.

With no one to believe him, with no one to help him, Sam is all alone in a race against time. Finding the truth before disaster strikes is going to be both crazy and very, very dangerous.

Excellent story

I really enjoyed this storyline with it's sympathetic handling of mental illness and the author's ability to keep the inexplicable way God works in our world.

first person view was unique

The first person view was a unique way to present this story. It started off slow but ended very well. The author does a great job of describing the scenes So that you feel like you're in the story

Moral principles without being preachy

Didn’t like the narrator at first—wasn’t sure about the story either but both grow on you and finish strong!

Great, clean story

Very well written and narrated novel. I appreciate “young adult” novels as they prove a story can be well-told without sexuality or foul language. That said, *possible subtle spoiler* I don’t know why he didn’t just run back to the shed.

Master writier

This is my second 'coming of age" novel by Klavan. When novels are rated as such one is led to think the writing is remedial or mindless dribble, not with Andrew Klavan. I especially love that these novels do not contain profanity or sexual scenes. This book held my attention throughout. It's one of those "oh no, now what?" type of strories. Klavan is a master of creating new and engaging novels that take the listener on a wild ride from beginning to end. The narrator (as in all of his books) for this novel was a perfect fit for the character. Well done Mr Klavan!

Exciting demonstration of very bad judgement!

Teen fiction suspense. Part thriller. Part horror. The very epitome of total lack of impulse control on the part of the protagonist. Why not go alone to investigate killers? Why take an adult with you? After all, nobody but you can save the world.

First person story telling. The narrator was good and captured the character well.

Excellent! Adventure for young readers

Andrew Klavan masterfully details, the angst of adolescence in a crazy, wholesome adventure of kindness and heroism.

Boring and predictable

I love Andrew but this is not his best work, The story was predictable and not very interesting, the narration is boring amd makes the story even harder to enjoy.
