About this listen

Attention fans of The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood! Here's a lively multigenerational tale of a family of charming, unforgettable Southern women, a story of love and laughter, pain and redemption that you are sure to treasure.

Meet the cast: Though she was born in Tennessee, Miss Gussie is no country fool. A woman who can handle any situation, she has her hands full with two headstrong daughters who happen to be complete opposites: dour Dorothy and sweet Clancy Jane. Hoping money will heal childhood wounds, Dorothy marries the owner of a five-and-dime, while Clancy Jane gets into a mess of trouble, running off with a randy tomcat who pumps gas at the Esso stand. And then there are Gussie's granddaughters, the smart but plain Violet and fancy-talking Bitsy, a new generation whose lives will reflect a nation's tumultuous times. From Tennessee to New Orleans, from psychedelic San Francisco to a remote Southwestern desert ranch, this funny, poignant novel spans more than four decades as it vividly recounts the universal loves, sorrows, and joys of women's lives.

Critic reviews

"Powerful....Impressive." (The New York Times Book Review)
"I can't think of enough nice things to say about Crazy Ladies. The voices are sharp, wry, and utterly convincing." (Washington Post Book World)

I had originally read this book 10 years ago. It became one of my favorites. Unfortunately, so much was edited out of the book. So much info that would of benefited the story line so much more and would have joined the ladies individual stories much better.

Edited!!!

No real "likeable characters"
I like to listen to Audible and follow along with a hard copy book when I can't listen to Audible, they were NOT the same at all.
I listened to the entire story, hoping it would get better.....wasn't until the last 50 to 60 pages it was entertaining.

Not the 'Southern Generation of comedy.

I did not find this book to be at all in the spirit of YA YA Sisterhood. There were few likeable characters, the story flowed along over the years without building the relationships. The narrator's voice was often whiny and annoying. I wouldn't recommend.

Not Like YA YA
