We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

Sourdough bread fueled the labor that built the Egyptian pyramids. The Roman Empire distributed free sourdough loaves to its citizens to maintain political stability. More recently, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, sourdough bread baking became a global phenomenon as people contended with being confined to their homes and sought distractions from their fear, uncertainty, and grief. In Sourdough Culture, environmental science professor Eric Pallant shows how throughout history, sourdough bread baking has always been about survival.

Great for beginners and experienced crocheters alike!!
I absolutely loved this book - I really appreciate that it took the time to breakdown the elements of crocheting from stitches, to holding the hook, to helping those who are left handed - I also really enjoyed the emphasis on using crochet as a relaxation tool, as this is something I’ve personally implemented in my mental health routine and have found amazingly helpful!! Whether you’re picking a hook up for the first time, or have been crocheting for years, I’m sure this book will have something useful for you!!

A feel good, relaxing learning experience
Boy do I wish this book existed when I first started my crochet journey way back when. So many of my questions could've been answered so simply. This beautifully written book as the title suggests looks at crochet not only from the usual functional productive take but also the relaxing and healing therapeutic one too. It takes just about anything you need or could want to know about crochet and breaks it and any instruction into nice little easily digestible bite sized chunks to help give you the best experience possible. Some beginner to intermediate patterns are included within with clear instruction. There's even a section for us left handed crocheters out there! Definitely recommending this one to my friends that are just starting out and struggling with the foundations. As someone who has crocheted for a good number of years I really appreciate the time and effort you put into writing this. Thank you for making such a wonderful and easy to comprehend book! I'm sure it will be a huge benefit for many new and learned alike for years to come. :-)
