About this listen
Author Ruth Sawyer, 1937 Newbery Medal recipient, penned her last book, Daddles, in 1964. Daddles delightfully captures the innocence of childhood as a brother and sister fall in love with a plain hound dog during their summer vacations in Maine. Though owned by the “meanest, dirtiest and most shiftless family in Haddock Harbor,” the young siblings “adopt” Daddles for two glorious summers. The intelligent, endearing hound dog wins the hearts of all as he joins in with capturing a thief, escaping a house fire, and dodging trouble at a local circus. All dog lovers will warmly embrace this book that rekindles the memories of the tenderness a child and dog can share.

A great story of simpler times

The adventures that the kids went on with daddles was fun and exciting and it was hard for me to stop listening. Although I struggled with the last chapter, this book really shows how little time we truly get to spend with dogs, but how long the impact and love will last.
A wonderful story, I would definitely recommend listening to it! Stark Wilson did a remarkable job to bring the listener back to simpler times of Maine and made the story enjoyable to listen to.
Perfect for a dog lover!
