About this listen

Dark. Suspenseful. Exciting.

Zoe is your typical high school student; that is, if you don’t count that her boyfriend is a Nephilim, she fights Demons for a living, and that she brought her best friend back from the dead.

Zoe wants things to go back to normal, but “normal” isn’t really her thing. There’s a new guy in town, one Zoe can’t help but feel desperately attracted to…though he’s dangerous. Really dangerous. And he’s just the start of her problems. Zoe is trapped in a race against time to get her powers under control or suffer the consequences. Tied to the fight between good and evil, Zoe must keep the peace between Angels, Fairies, Werewolves, and other creatures of the night. Betrayal and darkness loom in the shadows, and Zoe isn’t sure who she can trust.

But her current issues are nothing compared to the storm brewing on the horizon. Zoe has no idea what’s coming, or the danger she’s in. Because on her 18th birthday, it’s gonna be one hell of a fight.

A young adult urban fantasy filled with action, adventure, and romance, Daggers & Dresses is the second book in best-selling author Kristin D. Van Risseghem’s amazing Enlighten series. Paranormal monsters rule a universe where dark magic comes to play and love becomes dangerous. Book 1, Swords & Stilettos, is available now!

This is getting good!

I loved how this book just kept going from book 1, but spoiler alert. There is a cliffhanger at the end that will leave you needing book 3 ASAP!

I liked getting to see Zoe start to figure out her roll and learn more about what is going on outside of what everyone else sees. She does spend a lot of time focused on Shay for most of the book and the distraction does cost her.
Kieran was obviously hurting in this book and he came off as a jerk to Zoe, which stung.
Sidelle is my favorite! I just love her and look forward to getting to know her more.
Aiden makes it easy to not like him. I didn't like his on again, off again friendship with Zoe, so he really bugged me and I wanted Zoe to leave him behind. . .
I loved getting to see the werewolves and parts of Fairy in this book!

Enjoyable storyline with strong female lead

Zoe continues to find Allies in the fight against evil. She strives to be her best with the help of her friends. I love that this is a clean book with a storyline that centers on friendship.

Wowza!

The narrator, Sofia does a wonderful job portraying Zoe and the other characters. Her pitch, and tone was pleasant to listen and follow. The book takes place right where book 1 ending but unfortunately I struggled a bit on this one. The story line was a bit on the slow pace at the beginning but eventually it picked up pace. Which is good!! Like I said the narrator was fabulous and she did her best narrating the story. I enjoyed the story halfway, and I enjoyed the battle scenes and the speculation as to what Zoe will do next. But omg!! That ending!! I wanted to scream at my audiobook!! Thankfully the next installment is available.
If you enjoy, YA fantasy reads, and The Mortal Instruments series I believe you will enjoy this series as well.

It dragged

It dragged in The beginning and a few chapters. and the narrator did a good job trying to bring it to life but I wasn’t getting sucked in. I don’t know. For now this is my rating and I will try again at another time.
