In May 2023, Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, stated that "with artificial intelligence, there will be billion-dollar companies managed by a single person". In 2016, the team of researchers led by Juan Carlos Izpisúa at the Salk Institute in California managed to make old mice regain their youth, and in 2021, Yuri Milner and other billionaires created Altos Lab, hiring Izpisúa and several Nobel laureates to apply that therapy to humans and achieve permanent youth.

The plot of this novel takes place in the near future, which we reach by having been able to manage these two major changes that are about to happen. The permanent youth that benefits the protagonist makes him aware that the only thing left to spend endless time on is finding the limits of what is possible; this drives him to become part of humanity's first interstellar expedition, which travels almost at the speed of light to the Kapteyn star system, in an attempt to contact an alien civilization much older than ours.

"Dark Matter" adheres to current scientific knowledge and projects itself into a future where the unexpected unfolds.

In addition to "Dark Matter," Gregorio Planchuelo (former advisor to high-ranking officials in the Spanish government on research and universities) is the author of "The Observers" and "The Prophet and other stories", novels that depict the individual's ability to change the world.
