Es waren eine Schmiede und ein Schmied. Der Schmied aber war ein besonderer Schmied, denn sein Tagewerk lag vor Sonnenaufgang. Das ist ein sehr hartes Tagewerk. Man wird müde und traurig dabei. Man wird Still und geduldig dabei. Es gehört viel Kraft dazu. Denn man lebt einsam und schmiedet in der Dämmerung. Jetzt war es Nacht, und der Schmied war nicht in seiner Schmiede. Der Feuergeist in der Esse schlief.
