About this listen

Isaac, a young Australian photographer, is travelling through Europe. His whole life he has longed for the sophistication and wealth of the Europe of his father’s stories, the Europe at the centre of civilisation and culture.

But behind the facade of a unified and globalised contemporary society, he finds a history blasted wasteland, a place forever condemned by the ghosts of its unspeakable past.

Dead Europe is an unsettling ghost story about blood lust, blood libel, and blood revenge.

overwhelming and appalling

Only for the strongest souls.

Irresistible in its beauty and its repugnance.

One of the darkest masterpieces ever written.

Humphrey Bower is Brilliant

Yet again I chose this book not for the content but for Bowers brilliant narration. The story goes to dark places I was not comfortable with but stuck with it to witness Humphreys skilfully navigation of graphic sexuallity, brutality, and demons.

Culturally enlightening, but way too gross

It tells in a fashion which makes it easy to follow related stories. These contain diverse cultural traditions and customs of several nations. It also presents various mindsets regarding migration.

The terrible downside is the detail in which the author describes intimate scenes and his character's craving for blood and excrement.

The performance is excellent.
