About this listen

"Dead rockstars, and spells, and romance, oh my! This rockin’ romp through ‘90s nostalgia with a scorching heat level and the right cocktail of resurrection spells had me reaching for my “Zombie” playlist. A thoroughly enjoyable read for those of us who ever fell in love with a rockstar!" (Melanie Cossey author of A Peculiar Curiosity)

Stormy Spooner is at her wits' end. Careening towards bitter after a nasty divorce, she sometimes wonders what her life is becoming.

After unearthing a cryptic set of lines from a dusty album cover, Stormy tries the impossible: to resurrect Phillip Deville, enigmatic former frontman of the Bloomer Demons. Stormy's love for her favorite dead rockstar knows no bounds...but it was all supposed to be a joke.

When she answers a knock on her door the next day and finds herself face to face with the dark-haired rock god of her every teenage fantasy, her entire world is turned upside down.

Turns out, she’s awakened more than just Philip, and Stormy will have to do battle against a cast of strange characters to keep herself and her new undead boyfriend safe.

resurrection, bonds, love, loss, sacrifice

Let me start off with this one got my attention with the cover then the title. Then after that it was the blurb. I wanted to check this one out and see how Stormy get herself out of the mess she created. The opportunities, the changes, the revelations, the trust in herself, the sacrifice. Well I was not expecting all that. I very much enjoyed my introduction to Lilah Lawson. I also enjoyed the variety that narrator Danielle Joy Foley provided. I was able to follow along with no confusion in which gender or character. Thank you.

I enjoyed the narration

The narration was good but I found the story just a little bit weird. That’s said, Just because it’s not my kind of story doesn’t mean it’s not somebody else’s.

Interesting mix of magic and romance

3.5 stars
This is the first book I have listened to by the author and it would have been better reading the actual book. The storyline itself is interesting but gets lost as one tries to glean everything taking place from the audio version. The main character, Stormy Spooner, is likeable in a quirky kind of way with a strong will. As her life is crumbling, she attempts to bring dead rockstar, Phillip, back from the dead; never in a million years did she think it would actually work. However, when it does, the two are off on an adventure trying to deal with the people they come into contact with and doing their best to avoid difficulties. Ms. Foley is a new narrator to me and her narration was a challenge to get through. The voice used to convey the characters was at times robotic and the pitch was not pleasing to the ear. The articulation of the narration was well done but would have been better if it had been read a little faster with an injection of liveliness. I plan to go back and read a copy of this book.
