Publisher's summary

Mark Decker suffered the ultimate loss when his family was wiped out in a cruel accident which left him questioning everything he’d ever known. Discovering a new life and purpose with Eidolon as their team profiler saved him from a path of destruction and darkness. Keeping his heart locked away behind a cool edge of control ensured he’ll never risk that kind of pain again—until he meets her.

Dr Savannah Sankey is at the top of her field as a world-renowned Neurosurgeon. With a failed marriage behind her, her focus is now on her career and her friends. She knows that if love is out there it will find her, and if it doesn’t, she’s prepared to live the rest of her life alone, even though she is lonely at times. Her attraction to the indifferent profiler who seems to hate her is unfortunate, but when he shows her a side of himself that nobody else sees, she can’t help but have hope that maybe he’s the one who won’t leave her like everyone else.

When Savannah witnesses a murder, Decker knows he must do whatever it takes to keep her safe from the crime family now out for her blood. As he spends time with her, acting as her protector, passion flares and from that flame a connection grows that terrifies him. As unseen danger edges closer, he must decide if he’s willing to open himself to the risks that come with giving his heart away or if it’s his fate is to live alone.

Will two lonely people put aside their broken hearts to find love, or will they walk away from each other and spend the rest of their lives alone?

Emotional

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Mark Decker suffered the loss of his wife, son, and unborn daughter ten years ago which he blamed himself for and never recovered. He put up walls around his heart because he didn't think he deserved to be loved until a spunky neurosurgeon entered his life and heart. There is alot of twists and turns in this fast paced book.

a heart tugger

My heart just ached for Decker and all his guilt and pain. He deserved the second chance, and I was glad he finally allowed himself that chance. A lot of action, drama and danger with sweet sizzle. Decker was a great protector. Fantastic epilogue to round it all out. I voluntarily listened to a free copy and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life. I enjoyed the accent too.

Another great addition to a fabulous series

Loved seeing Decker find love. It was hard to watch him struggle with his grief and guilt. Lots of action, as always in these books.

Narration was good. I do prefer dual or duet narration but thought the narrator did a good job changing voices.

Technically, there were a few glitches. One chapter was repeated. Several phrases weren't cut completely and were repeated. It wasn't awful, just not smooth and professional.

Mark & Savannah

Talk about a fantastic ending to a series! Mark lost the most important people to himself, and now has to learn to live the guilt he feels. First way is to take a job with Eidolon and move to another country. He needs the space and time to deal with his feelings. But he never really does. In walks Savannah. A doctor, she witnesses a murder and now needs the Eidolon protection. With Mark shadowing her, she feels safe, and a whole lot more. But as Mark explains to her, they can never be more than casual. Until it no longer is. Now having to face his demons, keep Savannah safe and let himself feel again, he has his work cut out for him. Wade's family of Eidolon Black Ops is fantastic. Always there to help each other, the men and women are straight shooters, and there to give each other whatever they need. This story is real, holds so much emotion, has so much suspense and surprises that I was not able to stop listening. It's my favorite of the series and a great way to finish.

Conan Kennedy has a way with these characters that makes them seem so real. He falls into Mark's character, giving us his guilt and shame, and the feelings of fear and love. He easily transitions to the English Savannah, let's us hear her frustration and growing feelings. He made the book like a movie in our minds.

Not My Favorite Eidolon Operative

I listened to the audiobook and did enjoy the narration of the last book in the series.

I understood that Decker went through a traumatic experience. Savannah had a much more forgiving heart than me. Decker was BRUTAL with his words. Not once, not twice. But more times than I cared to count. That last go round with Savannah hurt my soul and he wasn't talking to me.

I felt like with Decker hanging on so tightly to something for TEN years, why didn't any of his team or their SO's suggest he seek some counseling?

I really didn't get much of a sense of Decker and Savannah together as a couple, because he blew hot and cold so much. He was often mean to her with his words being cutting and cruel, or they had this contentious back and forth going on. His positive feelings were internalized. His positive actions were external. It's a wonder Savannah could keep track of whether she was coming or going.

It was a good read. I did love the two epilogues. I am a sucker for a good epilogue. A nice ending to the series, even if it did make me feel a bit melancholy to know it was over.

Enjoyable

Decker & Savannah's story is an entertaining read. This is my second book by this author & I enjoyed this one much more.
Conan Kennedy did a stellar job of the narration. His female voice is easy on the ears and his natural male voice allows for a smooth listening experience. Decker has a lot of buried trauma in this story & Maddie Wade certainly gave him an ideal mate when she paired him with Savannah. Both of these characters complimented each other and brought a good depth to their relationship. Good story & great sexy times.
