About this listen

When ex-marine Georgia Bennett left the military for high-end private security, it was supposed to soften her snarky attitude. Instead, her short fuse just earned her a punishment of an assignment: protect smart-ass tech genius and Department of Defense contractor Parker Livingston. It should have been easy - only no one warned Georgia that Parker was one seriously drop-dead-gorgeous geek.

The last thing Parker needs is a bodyguard, especially not one with killer curves and a sassy mouth who tempts him to do something incredibly stupid. He's too busy investigating whoever is turning his technology against him and threatening his team of covert operatives. But when an assassin sends Georgia and Parker running for their lives, it might just be the explosive sexual chemistry and the trust that's building between them that saves their necks. Because the only thing more dangerous than the combination of Parker's intellect and Georgia's aim is their steadfast desire to protect each other, no matter the cost.

Awesome Series Kickoff

This audio book was so engaging I never wanted to turn it off! This is my first Elizabeth Dyer novel but I know it won't be the last! The striking persona of the heroine, beautiful, strong, feminine, capable, and determined yet vulnerable. The insanely brilliant geeky client she protected, handsome, wealthy, cocky, arrogant, and so insecure he couldn't recognize his own worth. They came together front and center with the help of Ethan and his "off the books" team to overcome the diabolical plot of evil to use Parker's program. I can't wait to start the next book in this series to see what happens next!

Not Defenseless!

What an awesome book! I loved how the author flipped the bodyguard persona from male to female. Georgia was assigned to protect Parker. Their chemistry was outstanding from the beginning. This story has so many facets. I loved the symbolism of the watches, the name of the cat (PITA), the complex characters, the action and the means to survive. This book was so well written with the dynamics and thrilling storyline. The performance by Aiden Snow was fabulous. I loved his accents and various character voices. I cannot wait to listen to more books by this author and narrator. This book is one of my favorite romantic suspense books that I have listened to.

Suspense that tickles the funny bone

I like listening to books where I don’t have to think too hard to follow the story and that don’t require deep contemplation to determine hidden meanings. I want a straight up “get lost in” story, plausible plot line, good character development...I was delightfully entertained by Defenseless. Elizabeth Dyer delivered on every level and then some. Very well developed characters that you can actually relate to on some level, a deviously twisted plot, laugh out loud lines where you least expect them (right in the middle of the first kiss between Parker & Georgia comes a rumba-riding cat...), and just the right amount of romance (if you don’t like a few explicit sex scenes...don’t skip by this one, just fast forward past them; the story is too good to miss). I’ve downloaded Dyer’s second in this series, but honestly I enjoyed this one so much I keep listening to it and I haven’t started book two yet! Definitely a keeper! I’m looking forward (eventually ) to the second in the series and sincerely hope she keeps writing more!!! This is the first narration I’ve heard for Aiden Snow and I love him! I prefer male narrators though...and everyone has their own preferences, but I thought he did a fabulous job. Very easy and enjoyable to listen to.

horrible narrator

i have an hour to commute and thought, perfect book i can listen too and it's free with KU. Unfortunately, i has to turn the sound up so loud and then the narrator dropped words. i could barely comprehend who was speaking in the book. She and he were lost and in the end, i just had to read it. kinda disappointed. i mean the guys voice is great, deep base, expressive, and mostly articulate.

adequate

I liked te story concept and characters but felt the author had a hard time blending the love story and the action. In particular the relationship and feelings were developed early but then the descriptions became repetitive later in the book.

Really Great Suspense Romantic!

This was my first Elizabeth Dyer's book. This is a really great suspense romantic, fast pace and really entertaining! The story line is well built and really well written. I love the two main characters, Parker and Georgia. This was my first listen to Aiden Snow. The narration was very great. I can't wait to listen to the next book in this Series!

Do You Want to Play a Game?

When I heard that line, I knew I was completely hooked into this book. OK, I was hooked even before that. This first in the series of the Somerton Security has us meeting Ethan Somerton, owner of the agency. He is having some issues with his employee Georgia Bennett, so he gives her an assignment she has to take to save her job. Having Georgia Bennett be a strong, sexy, independent and protective bodyguard for Parker Livingston, the genius behind a highly intelligent government computer program is a refreshing change. But that is only part of the story. Elizabeth Dyer has woven a tale of intrigue, danger, lies, greed and action that keeps you on the edge of your seat, all the while you are routing for lives to be saved, love to survive and corruption to be extinguished. The characters in the story are so well developed and the scenes so well written that it is like I was there, experiencing the havoc with all of them, from every gunshot to every kiss. The dynamic between Parker and Georgia is believable, and it's easy to feel their push-pull emotions. I loved this book and look forward to Ethan's story.

Romantic suspense books need a certain kind of narrator to make the story believable and the choice of Aiden Snow is perfect. He is able to create a world with his voice that sucks you into the drama and make you feel it all happening. I loved his performance.

Somerton Security #1

This is a real good book. Full of action and emotion. The characters are not over the top, they are believable. I connected with all of them. There was however a lot of explanations in the book which made it a bit slow at times, but to understand the full story, they are needed.

Narration was good. Sometimes I battled to distinguish between male and female voices. But overall, I’d give it a 4 out of 5.

I REALLY want to read (listen to) the rest of the series.
