Als er wieder einmal zu einem Hausbesuch gerufen wird und statt eines Patienten eine Leiche vorfindet, ist sein detektivischer Ehrgeiz geweckt. Fortan lässt Jean seinen Arztkoffer immer öfter in der Praxis stehen und löst noch drei weitere Fälle, die ihn in den mondänen Badeort Royan und bis an die Côte d’Azur führen. Dabei hat der kleine Doktor eine Schwäche: Er verliebt sich zu schnell - und Alkohol verträgt er schlecht, eine Kombination, die seine Ermittlungen nicht gerade vereinfacht.
