About this listen
In Destined for Destiny, "George W. Bush" offers listeners an intimate, plainspoken, and sometimes articulate look at the character-shaping achievements that led to his inevitable rise to the office of President of the United States.
Written from the heart, not from the brain, this definitive autobiography takes listeners on a journey through the 43rd president's life, including his hardscrabble beginnings as the child of West Texas oil millionaires, the remarkable academic performance that earned him entry into the finest East Coast schools, and his proud service to the country as an occasional member of the National Guard, sometime around 1972 or 1973.
To help craft this lasting account of his life and leadership, "George W. Bush" turned to two writers who have earned not only his trust but his deep friendship: Scott Dikkers, editor-in-chief of The Onion and coauthor of the number-one best seller Our Dumb Century, and Peter Hilleren, former producer for public radio and some of the nation's finest public-access cable television stations.
Dikkers and Hilleren called on their finely honed journalism expertise every week to write and record the president's weekly radio address on WeeklyRadioAddress.com. Their work on such stirring addresses as "June Terror Update" and "The Pope Is Dead" made them the ideal choice to meet the challenge of chronicling the visionary mark left on history by its shining light, President George W. Bush.

He was the unlikeliest of presidential candidates - dismissed by opponents as a movie actor, a right-winger trying to undo the work of liberals stretching back to Franklin Roosevelt. Yet Ronald Reagan made it to the White House, taking office in a time of economic turmoil, waning prestige abroad, and a general dampening of the American spirit. Reagan's patriotism, wit, and optimism lifted the nation and brought it through several crises.

Story
Richard Nixon opens with young navy lieutenant "Nick" Nixon returning from the Pacific and setting his cap at Congress, an idealistic dreamer seeking to build a better world. Yet amid the turns of that now legendary 1946 campaign, Nixon's finer attributes quickly gave way to unapologetic ruthlessness. It is a stunning overture to John A. Farrell's magisterial portrait of a man who embodied postwar American cynicism.

After being released from prison and winning South Africa’s first free election, Nelson Mandela presided over a country still deeply divided by 50 years of apartheid. His plan was ambitious if not far-fetched: use the national rugby team, the Springboks—long an embodiment of white-supremacist rule—to embody and engage a new South Africa as they prepared to host the 1995 World Cup.

Bush Nailed
A pungent reflection on the "terrible, terrifying terror" that has been the Bush Administration. The authors and narrator have nailed it: the sibilance, the malapropisms, the arrogance, and the ignorance. Keep a box of tissues nearby: You will laugh until you cry (and vice versa).

Therapy
Whenever our president sends me into another rage or depression, I have only to listen to Destined for Destiny to find myself laughing hysterically. If you're feeling frustrated over so much cold incompetence, greed and lunacy at the top of our government, then this book will be medicine in the form of riotous kindred sympathy.

The Mother of All Unauthorized Autobiographies
The Onion's weekly Presidential addresses in 2008 gave me the strength to overcome the loss of my job amidst an economic meltdown. It was comforting to know that someone with compassion in his heart and lots of dough in his pockets was looking down on me from the White House. And now that Destined for Destiny has been recorded for the ages, I feel even more comforted. Because these tales must be told. Otherwise, who will know about the reduction in the werewolf population in Texas? Who will understand how George Bush saved our great nation from takeover by the machines? Or from reanimated corpses?
Personally, I feel that this audiobook go a long way towards removing any doubt from the minds of the naysayers who think that a man who runs several businesses into the ground isn't capable of running the country into the ground as well...

NOT an autobiography
What a sad, sad waste of my credit. This is a mockery of the former president with a few (or not) derogatory descriptions of his wife. I did not finish the book as I was rudely disappointed by its pessimistic depiction of historical events, its over-the-top mocking impersonations, and coldly rude tone.

CRAP
This was a waste of publishers time not to mention those of us stupid enough to buy into anyone writing what was billed as something positive about Bush. I guess I should have gotten my clue from the "Unauthorized Autobiography". I can't image that even anyone that hates our President would find humor in this. I usually finish even books I do not find interesting in hopes that I will find a redeeming quality, couldn't do it with this audio, HORRIBLE. Hate the voice, hate the material, waste of my time and money. Can't rate this on the stars since it won't allow less than one star.
