Infolge einer Reihe von Anschlägen in Xinjiang 2014 errichtete die chinesische Regierung in den letzten Jahren dort ein riesiges Netz von Straflagern für ethnische Minderheiten, vorwiegend muslimische Uiguren und Kasachen. Beschönigend nennt Peking diese - trotz erdrückender Beweislage - weiterhin "Berufsbildungslager", in denen sich alle "Schüler freiwillig" aufhielten.
Im Jahr 2017 gerät die kasachische Staatsbeamtin und Direktorin mehrerer Vorschulen Sayragul Sauytbay selbst in die Mühlen des chinesischen Unterdrückungsapparates. Nachdem ihr kasachischer Mann mit beiden Kindern das Land verlassen hat, wird sie mehrmals verhört und schließlich in ein Umerziehungslager gesteckt, wo sie ihren Mitgefangenen von morgens bis abends die chinesische Sprache, Kultur und Politik beibringen muss. Dabei erhält sie Zugang zu geheimsten Informationen, die Pekings langfristige Pläne offenlegen, die Demokratien zu unterhöhlen und zu unterwerfen. Die Bedingungen sind unmenschlich: Gehirnwäsche, Folter und Vergewaltigung, dazu erzwungene Einnahme von Medikamenten, die die Inhaftierten apathisch macht oder vergiftet. Jede Nacht müssen sie stundenlang mit erhobenen Händen an einer Wand stehen und ihre "Sünden" bekennen. Überraschend kommt Sayragul Sauytbay 2018 wieder frei, soll aber kurz darauf als Gefangene ins Lager, deshalb flieht sie nach Kasachstan.
Obwohl Peking mit allen Mitteln versucht, die Entflohene zurückzuholen, und sie bis heute vom chinesischen Geheimdienst bedroht wird, sieht sie es als ihre Aufgabe an, der Welt Zeugnis abzulegen von den chinesischen Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit. Und sie will die Welt warnen vor der Politik Pekings, das mit "Softpower" wie beim "Seidenstraßenprojekt" großzügige Kredite vergibt, andere Länder in Abhängigkeit bringt und langfristig die Unterwerfung der freien Welt anstrebt. Modell steht dabei Xinjiang - der größte Überwachungsstaat, den die Welt je gesehen hat, in dem Faschismus und Tyrannei regieren.
