About this listen

Strength from weakness

Disability becomes power

Six stories with one impactful message:

  • A voiceless child painting visions of death
  • A killer with a deadly message plagued by a burden of guilt
  • A priestess divinely empowered to absorb others' pain
  • A soldier fighting for courage in the face of fear
  • A broken warrior-priest on a mission of vengeance
  • A thief desperate to escape the burden of his memories

Betrayed by mind or body, these people struggle to survive in a grim world that takes no pity on the weak. Yet they will discover that they are simply different, not damaged.

You'll be hooked by this collection of fantasy stories that shatters the preconceptions of what is possible. With each word, you'll be drawn in further and further. These stories may even change the way you see the world.

Disability representation and great stories

It’s so nice to see disability represented in a fiction story and have the character not be helpless but realize their worth. I enjoyed the stories and found myself wanting more when it was done!

In the end

I was at first not thrilled but as it picks up it gets good. Definitely worth its price and time for the picture it presents.

we need more books like this

Different not Damaged is an excellent collection of stiries fitting perfectly into Andy Peloquin's fantasy world whose disabled characters are resl, whole characters rather than mere dressing for nondisabled characters.

Highly Emotional

It's a good thing I listened to the audiobook because I spent a lot of time crying my eyes out. These characters endure so much, and they keep going in spite of it. The author's brilliant insight into the psychology of disabilities made me completely feel connected to the characters. Each story in the collection just keeps getting better.
the narrator did a beautiful job. His voice is quite pleasing to listen to and he was fabulous in how he helped bring each character alive.
I wish I coukd rate this SIX stars.
