About this listen

A quirky, feisty heroine....

As a struggling waitress and part-time college student, Rose Strickland's life is stalled in the slow lane. But when her close friend, Axton, disappears, Rose suddenly finds herself serving up more than hot coffee and flapjacks. Now she's hashing it out with sexy bad guys and scrambling to find clues in a race to save Axton before his time runs out. With her anime-loving bestie, her septuagenarian boss, and a pair of IT wise men along for the ride, Rose goes from zero to sixty and quickly learns when you're speeding down the fast lane, it's easy to crash and burn.

I couldn't stop reading this book

When I first started I wasn't sure I was going to like it because of the lifestyle of the younger generation being so different from my own but there was enough variety in characters and action and mystery to keep me going by the end I really really enjoyed it

A light character driven story with some mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to a friend as the story captured my interest and held it for the duration of the story. The violence is very limited and the characters are interesting if a little off the beaten path. The mystery elements are quite light and I anticipated all of them, but the characters kept me with the story. I look for to seeing if Rose progresses and develops or is left to drift here and there for the several coming sequels.

What other book might you compare Diners, Dives and Dead Ends to and why?

It has the bad boy elements and character driven storyline of the Stephanie Plums series, but I don't see Rose as being nearly as hard core or professional as Stephanie. Stephanie has a career that involves going out looking for trouble while Rose simply has it find her. This story is definitely lighter and avoids casting any of the characters in too black of terms.

What does Luci Christian bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator keep the tone very light and upbeat adding the illusion of someone from essentially the right side of town, although personally somewhat alienated from it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How can one girl attract so many very different men?

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the cost and time to give this one a listen.

Valley Girl meets Nancy Drew

What did you like best about Diners, Dives and Dead Ends? What did you like least?

Hard to say. The implausible story line.

What was most disappointing about Terri L. Austin’s story?

She has little experience with reality. The story lines in this book are all highly unlikely.

Would you be willing to try another one of Luci Christian’s performances?

Not ever. I had to transfer to the whispersync version just to finish the book. The Valley Girl narrative drove me mad.

Was Diners, Dives and Dead Ends worth the listening time?

No! Save your credit.
