About this listen

The author of Breakfast with Buddha brings his characteristic whimsy to a new novel about New York book editor Otto Ringling and Mongolian monk Volya Rinpoche, who embark on a road trip from Rinpoche's meditation center in North Dakota to the glitter and glitz of the Las Vegas strip.

What prompts the trip is Otto's recently altered life, having lost first his wife then his job, and then seeing both his children leave home for lives of their own. With Rinpoche's guidance, he hopes to find a new meaning in his life and a new direction. But what begins as a quietly contemplative journey becomes much more as the two men travel through the heart of the American Midwest, witnessing the decimated lives of so many American natives and giving Otto new perspective on the trials he is experiencing in his own life.

Along with these inner awakenings for Otto, there is also a very real hint of menace in the novel, as men show up who may be looking to make sure that the world never knows of the existence of Shelsa, the eight-year-old daughter of Rinpoche and Otto's sister, Cecilia. Shelsa has consistently shown that she has the markings and the instincts of a spiritual leader, leading to speculation that she may be the new Dalai Lama.

Book 3 of series

I liked the book...but not as much as the first. Would be interested in the story continuing. I wonder if the Author is working on any sequel?

A must read if you’ve finished lunch with Buddha

Yes it’s a little repetitive, being the third road trip , but the ending is a wonderful conclusion and very revealing, I hope for a late supper with Buddha sometime soon !

Absolutely delightful!

Love this beautiful trilogy! It’s a feel good, thought provoking delightful read. So descriptive that you almost feel like you are there as they travel throughout the US. So warm and lighthearted, you walk away feeling a sense of calm and joy. I loved it so much that I just might have to read it again.

Too soon?

Is it wrong to write a review before hearing the book? Probably. But, I am over the moon happy that this series is back. Without a doubt, i recommend these books more than any other. The narration is fantastic, and the content is beautiful, informative, challenging, and wonderful. Of course, I know I need to hear this edition, but I'll be sad when its over.

Wonderful Twists and Turns

Having finished the third of this via audio, I feel as if I, like Otto, have journeyed with Rinpoche. It's one thing to have a plot with characters but this series is a plot with conflicts of a higher nature. Please take a break and read this series. You will find yourself putting the book down to ponder one of Rinpoche's "lessons" or searching for a sticky note to mark a page!
