About this listen

Caleb Barnes is on a mission. He's retired from the Army, but he's waging his own private war now. And though the men of Burnout are his former brothers-in-arms, Caleb fights his battles alone. Caleb was tainted from the moment he was born. He's always been alone and he'll always be alone. The world has no place for a man like him.

Isabelle Boucher is on a mission of her own. She doesn't want to go it alone, but there's no other choice these days. She won't give up or give in, not until she reaches the end of the line.

Caleb's convinced he's no good for anyone, especially not women. There's nothing he can offer a woman but pain and devastation. But Isabelle needs help and to refuse goes against everything Caleb stands for.

Can two people alone for different reasons come together for a common cause? And once they do, will they ever want to be apart again?

Contains mature themes.

Great crime drama with a tough of romance

Part of a series. Can be read as a standalone.

Well-written crime drama with detective work and suspense. Oh, and a romance along the way.

Intriguing main and secondary characters.

A few hot scenes. Mostly vanilla.

I like the narration.

Two lonely individuals find love

Izzy is an independent female and Caleb did not try to change her.
I felt the author did a great job of depicting the development of the relationship. And I must mention the narration, it was superb.
I prefer this story, I did not like the Tex storyline.

Went out on a high!!! Def one of the best of the series

Definitely saved one of the best for last. I almost gave up on this series after listening to hawk and Tex-who are 2 of my favorite characters, however their stories were not my favorite at all. Easy came up a bit but Docs story is amazing with a strong female and some great action. Love how strong they both are and how this story develops. So good! So happy I read it. Love shooter and this one the most. So good!!

Loved the story but it ended too quickly.

I loved the heroine in the story, she is so strong and could not be bullied. Also love Caleb but would have liked to learn more about him. I also liked the Sioux Falls surprise. All this time, I would not have guessed. So sad the series ended though, I really loved the guys, especially Shooter.

it just takes the right woman;)

Out of all the guys in the Burnout group, Doc (Caleb) is the most secretive; he holds in his demons. It takes a straight shooter like bounty hunter Izzy to get past his crusty exterior. Well done and a lead in to West’s next book, Preacher, about the President of the Badlands Buzzards, who has appeared in this book and Shooter.
Lloyd does a good job of narration.

Not bad at all

While I found the book was too short the story was pretty good. I listened/read all 5 books only 3 made the cut. Sadly Hawk and Easy didn't get the best stories. I like Izzy because she was a really strong, no nonsense woman. I loved how she stood up to Doc and made things happened. He was a bit of a twisted mess and she was more than willing to stand by him and help him. I would have liked a couple of extra chapters to finish the series properly.

Good Book. Great Narration

Any additional comments?

This audio book is 1 in a series but can easily be listened to as a stand alone. The characters are so great that I would have a hard time thinking about listening to this alone not knowing all the unique personalities of the other characters. I can recommend this book but I would say that what made it so enjoyable was knowing all the other characters so well from the previous books in the series. As far as the narration goes, it was excellent. This narrator has brought the characters to life in a perfect way. He did an excellent job.

This was a really good book

What a great story. In this series we have seen a lot of mystery surround Caleb aka Doc. I mean how mean of you that have read this series have wondered who the mystery woman Sioux Falls was? Well in the book we get to find out just that and then some.

Now this book can be read as a standalone but to truly know each and ever character you need to read the whole series. I loved this story just as much as I loved book 1 and 4. I did do the whispersync with this book and the narrator did a good job.

I found Isabelle Boucher aka Izzy an amazing woman. Here she was a strong confident woman. She told it like it was and expected the same in return. She was a bounty hunter and loved putting criminals away. She also had a good and understand heart. Well that was unless you did her wrong. She did not do forgiveness.

Caleb was a sexy Ex-Army Ranger and also a cop. In this book we get to know Caleb better. In the previous books we did get to see that he did not completely follow the law and would do what he needed to get the bad guy. What we did not get to see is the inward battle that Caleb fought within.

Reading about Izzy and Caleb you could see these two were so meant for each other. They were perfect. Caleb needed someone as strong minded and able to take care of herself as Izzy was. He also needed someone that would fight hard for him as well.

There was one thing that made me stop reading for a second (okay more then a second) that was so wrong in my eyes. Now for most people who do not know anything about guns they would not even notice this but for people like me who do know a few things about guns well lets just say it caused me paused in my reading for a bit. The author did so well on the information she provided when it came to most of the facts on the guns, vest, and other things used in the book expect for when she said that Izzy pulled back the Glock’s hammer. A Glock does not have a hammer that you pull back.

There is a lot that happen in this story and I have to say I truly enjoyed this book and hate to see the series end. I would recommend this series to anyone that loves bad biker ex-military guys. Glad I got a chance to read the book.

No! This series can't be over!

This series was an awesome ride and I've really enjoyed listening to each of characters stories! While Doc's story was really good, I felt it was too short, and slightly underdeveloped. I'm definitely looking forward to moving on to Dahlia's other audiobook series Rapid City Stories!
