About this listen
Henry Franken has a problem with money-he has too much of it. When his unprincipled father dies, thirty-three-year-old Henry inherits a massive estate, including an Upper East Side residential building. He must confront the reality of his new financial status, directly conflicting with his well-honed identity as a "progressive liberal." When he shows up to collect the keys to his father's building, he notices a sign: "Doorman Wanted."
Seeing a chance to stave off the complexities of his inheritance, Henry applies for the position under a pseudonym . . . and gets it. Now, no one in the building knows that Doorman "Franklin Hanratty" is the building's new mysterious owner.
Through interactions with residents and the homeless outside his door, Henry develops from an idealistic young person avoiding the demands of his fortune, into a man who accepts the opportunity to direct that wealth toward a broader good.

Hated to say it “Goodbye” to characters.
I enjoyed how wonderfully the author, who is also the reader brought each character to life.

Feel good story
Great story! I did have a difficult time imagining someone who spoke and acted like Franklin/Henry being only 33. He had been a social worker in California, so I’d imagine a vocabulary more in tune to someone used to dealing with a more street smart, less refined demographic. I can’t imagine many of the people he worked with as a social worker wouldn’t feel intimidated by his grandiose vocabulary. Maybe if he was a 70 year old professor of literature? But nice to have a feel-good story in these times!

Great story!
What a warm and charming book. The concept was just perfect and the stories of the people living and working in and around the building were sharp but loving. The author narrates it perfectly.

The character development was awesome.
The book was very enjoyable to listen to. The details in the character development were awesome. The story line included relatable characters across many segments of the population. The relationship between the characters were very genuine. I recommend this book as a must listen to as the author did a wonderful with all of the different voices and dialogue.

Pure Smart Fun with Characters to Adore!
Never have I had this much fun having a cold! I crawled into bed and downloaded author Glenn Miller 's new novel DOORMAN WANTED. I listened to this smart, witty, wry self discovery tale, full of heart, ode to NYC, nod to PJ Woodhouse, a poke at the swanky upper crust with a group of engaging characters that came alive with terrific narration that had me happily in bed for a couple days, listening for hours, laughing out loud. Love the humanity and smarts of Central Park artists, the pretension of the "in the know" art world, the observant and smart senior residents. The personalities came through the narrator's ( the author!)
voice so pitch perfect, the rich cast is ready for film or stage!

Fun quirky story.
Guaranteed to entertain! What fun when an inherited millions causes Henry to take the job of a doorman in his own high rise condo building in New York City. He spends many fun months as the doorman in the lives of the condo owners and all those in and around his building. Befriending several homeless people in the process. His compassion for them and trying to help all when keeping his millions a secret. Great story and kudos to the author Glenn R. Miller on his very entertaining performance of the story. Not many self narrated books are as well read. Loved it!

Delightfully clever !
Thoroughly enjoyed this witty, intelligent and insightful journey of a ridiculously rich heir as a doorman with a concealed identity. Glen Miller writes very illustrious characters and I was immediately engaged. The writing style is more like a screenplay adapted for audio rather than a novel but it was a very interesting listen. Well done !

Outstanding, entertaining, and fistpumping good!
When Henry Franken strolls into the manager’s office of his recently inherited condominium building announcing “I’m here for the building” … Charlotte, thinking the employment agency sent him to fill the open doorman position, hands him a form to fill out! Henry, completely unprepared to take over his new responsibilities, grabs the lifeline … uh form, makes up an assumed name and … seals his immediate fate! Brilliantly narrated by the author, and featuring a stellar, character driven plot, “Doorman Wanted” is a beautifully done, throughly enjoyable, wonderful treat! The characters are unique, beautifully developed and kept busy by shenanigans a plenty! I laughed, I sighed, and I LOVED every single minute of this fabulously entertaining audiobook! THIS is the kind of story I’ll listen to time, and time again. Five fantastic, brilliant, beautiful stars! This one has it ALL!
