Publisher's summary
Investigate a murderous ghost, do battle with a shapeshifting demon, get ready for a date … it’s all in a day’s work for Sacramento’s only paranormal detective.
The ghost of a man’s wife come to avenge her untimely death, a woman caught on camera stealing drugs from work when she wasn’t even in town, and a family with a secret no one can ever know.
When August Watson takes on all three cases at the same time, it’s not because he is short of work, but due to the worrying connection between them – they all point to impossible doubles.
Is there a shapeshifting doppelganger at work? It seems like the only explanation for the craziness ensuing, but as he gets closer to the truth, the long-hidden lies he disturbs come with a price.
His own life.
In a race to stop more deaths, August Watson will risk it all.
If only work was his biggest worry.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

There are good reasons to fear the night. August Watson is about to kick them in the pants. Kids getting hurt by a figure in their nightmares might sound like the makings for a bad slasher movie, but for August Watson, Sacramento’s only paranormal detective, it’s a very real case. He’s heading to the coast for a well-deserved break, but he’s soon gonna wish he’d stayed at home. That could be because his assistant sneakily invited August’s entire family and the two women he is struggling to pick between. So when Edgar Corey, one time FBI field agent and all-round recluse, is called upon to help the sheriff with what sounds like a supernatural case, he automatically turns him down. Someone is resurrecting the dead. That’s what Edgar’s client claims. Way up in the Appalachian Mountains, far from what most folks would call civilisation, a remote community has a new preacher with some rather disturbing skills. Worse yet, his followers act more like a cult, their belief in the man behind the miracles dangerously unshakable. Edgar’s job is to rescue his client’s sister, a woman swept up in the worrying fervour surrounding the enigmatic priest, but trying to disprove a resurrection quickly becomes a fight for his life when the locals begin to understand his motives....

Who would call if your family were not the only ones occupying your house? The cops? Sure. But you already know the ‘thing’ living with you isn’t bound by mortal laws. August Watson specialises in all things spooky and weird; it’s his niche in the P.I. market, but this case might just be a little too far into left field even for him. But how can he turn down a family in distress? Too terrified to return to their home and convinced their little girl has been possessed by a demonic entity, they beg for his help. He’s faced his past. He’s faced his demons. Now it’s time he faced ...

Not fun!
Not the sense of family that the Blue Moon series had. This series is too creepy and not in a fun way. I don’t hear the voice of Steve Higgs in these books.

Disappointed
The female AI voice was just not a good fit for this book, it had a bit of immaturity to it.
I found the characters to be naive, which was irritating. It seemed the authors are using that to force drama.
Dialog contained odd interactions, with some what off responses. With the AI compounding the effect, because the AI system are not quiet there yet.
I had this with the previous book by these authors. Maybe the authors should narrate this book to understand what we hear. At least listen to it. My wife had the same experience with the chapter she listen to.
Its just odd, and it maybe the AI, that causing a lot of it.
It was a free book so no harm.
Ill listen to the next one, I like the story.
