About this listen

Who says having all your dreams come true is a good thing?

Serenity Winters is taking the summer off. After her last year included crushing on the wrong guy (again), having her best friend move all the way across the country, and an unexpected loss she's still not prepared to deal with, she deserves it. And a visit to see Maia in California seems the perfect getaway.

Beaches, bonfires, and boys? Yes please!

But Rennie's dreams aren't so easy to elude. Sketching what she can remember of them helps some, but her drawings are taking on a life of their own, and the dreams they represent are starting to come true.

Enter Alex, who may or may not be perfect. No, who is she kidding? He's perfect. Great hair, plus he can quote Hamlet and Yoda? Come on! But Alex has secrets of his own, namely a hidden ability to transport himself through time using a book as a portal.

Could it be that both Rennie and Alex are being drawn into the same mystery? They better find out quickly, because her dreams are getting louder. And they know her by name.

I was totally Drawn into this story.

This is my first book review, ever, so pardon my “newness” to the process if I make any rookie mistakes.

I am a big fan of time travel stories, and I have read my fair share of them. I’m very interested in how each author interprets the concept of time travel and how they apply the “rules”. Frequently, authors follow similar paths as to how time travel works, which can feel a little like “ok, sure, this again.” This, however, did not happen in Drawn In. It was a very unique and unexpected approach to time travel that I was very surprised by.

The main character felt very familiar to me as I share many of her nerdy passions such as Sci-fi, the love of theater, shows like Doctor Who and books like The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (which funny enough, was the last book I read before this one).

I reside in Missouri, as does the author, and her writing style felt familiar with a mid-west charm, even though it is set in California.

I’m not usually a fan of stories that have a fairy-tale feel, but this was different enough to keep me speeding through the chapters.

There were a few attributes I was not completely in awe with. The first was that there were multiple characters introduced who all have the ability to travel - which I felt was a little forced or highly coincidental (all three characters that can do something remarkable that just so happen to be in the same town where Reni just happened to be visiting.)

I was also a little disappointed as to how fast the story ended. A huge cliffhanger with so many unanswered questions. So I’m ready to jump into the next book in the series.

I would highly recommend this book and look forward to Sioux Trett”s next book.

Enjoyable and fun characters

It was a fun book, very character driven. It’s a bit of a slow start story wise but the characters are well written and engaging so it was still intriguing enough to keep listening. Narration was good, not the clearest of audio but could’ve been compression from audible, but I enjoyed the performance. Interested enough to listen to book 2.

Sooo good! Can't Wait for Book 2!!!!

I listened with my 13 year old daughter and we absolutely loved this book and are hoping they don't take long getting book two on Audible! I don't want to give anything away so I will keep this review short. This story is a mix of fantasy and clean romance with some mystery thrown in. It's time travel with books as your portal which is just a fun and original new take.

The narrator did an incredible job! She had great differentiation between the characters voices and overall narration. Her acting skills were top-notch, she was able to express the emotions well without going over the top like some tend to do. Simply put she was super entertaining and I really hope they use her for the second book.

I honestly don't remember hearing any bad language, it was really a clean book without any suggestive or sexual content and no graphic violence.

Can we talk about that ending???!!!!

This book was insanely good. What starts off as a basic YA novel, quickly morphs into a wonderful fantasy that includes time travel. The story was very imaginative and I got swept away trying to figure out who Ethan is. That big reveal at the end just blew my mind!!!! I can't wait for the next book!

Needless to say, the narration was every bit as good as the written word. Just Wow!!
